Clatter!
The dinner knife slipped from Blair's trembling hands and hit the floor.
Blaze didn't flinch. He continued, entirely unbothered, his tone measured and precise. "Right now, I'm still pursuing Cecilia. No matter what she's done, the person I want by my side for the rest of my life is her. What you saw in the lounge… it doesn't matter."
"But she… she's… divorced… and with a man named Vincent—"
"I'm afraid I don't remember that," Blaze said with a faint, teasing smile, impossible to read. "If possible, I'd prefer you forget it too. Don't meddle in the matters between her and me."
A waiter placed a steaming bowl of mushroom soup in front of Blair. Her fingers shook as she instinctively cupped the warm bowl, letting the heat chase away the icy chill that had crept up her arms. Even though the soup scalded her palms, she refused to let go.
