Rio's Point of View: Outside the Penthouse
As I carry Lina from the car, she is completely limp. She's not really asleep; it's more like she's in a state where being awake and being asleep at the same time. I get her to the front door and put her down so I can look for my keys.
"Come on," I say, trying to get her to the elevator. "We're going up."
"No." With a lot of determination, she shakes her head. "I'm not going anywhere." This is where I sleep now. "My bed is on the ground."
She sways dangerously, so I grab her arm to keep her from falling.
"Lina, pay attention. "We're going inside."
"Why should I go inside when I can stay outside where it's..." She looks up at the night sky as if she has figured out a math problem. "...dark. Hey, everything is dark now. Did you see? "The whole world is dark."
"Yes." And it's chilly. "It's warmer inside."
