Lina's point of view: Afternoon, Union Square, San Francisco
I took a day off for the first time in months. No meetings, no calls, and no work. It's just me and the city, and I really need to forget that I'm marrying a man who sees me as a piece of property.
Diego called around noon. "I'm in the city. Let's get to work. Anything that isn't work."
We walked through Union Square like everyone else. He got me coffee. I tried on dresses that I would never wear. For a few hours, I acted like my life wasn't a carefully planned lie. Diego was warm and easy to talk to. He was the kind of man who made you feel like you were seen instead of owned.
Then he said the club.
Diego's point of view: Zenith Nightclub, 8 PM
The club is private and underground, the kind of place where billionaires go to avoid being seen. I got us a private room on the first floor so we could talk without the noise from the main floor bothering us.
But Lina didn't want to talk. She wanted to forget.
