"RIP mum and dad. I love you!" A lone tear fell on the picture frame I was holding. I watched as the tear rolled down to the edge and stuck to the glass.
Before more tears followed it, I quickly shoved the picture frame of me, my mum and dad inside my backpack and zipped it close.
That's about it!.
I wiped the lingering tears off my face and sniffed back the pain, holding in my tears, trying to stay strong.
I took a long glance around my white and cream painted room. I've got everything I needed to survive in a new school, I hope.
As I glanced around, I caught my reflection in the mirror. A girl with long red hair tied at the nap of her neck stared back at me, two curly tendrils falling in front of her eyes. Her eyes were Scarlett that seemed to glow in a way she never understood.
That girl was me!. Melisa Howard. A Scarlett half moon necklace, same shade as my eyes was hanging curtly around my neck, the necklace dad gave me. A matching bracelet also rounded my wrist.
"Are you really leaving dear?" A voice cut into the silence in my bedroom, making me turn away from the mirror.
Nancy stood at the foot of my bedroom glancing at me with teary eyes and a sad smile. I hadn't even heard her footsteps approaching.
I took a brief glance at her,
"Yes I'm leaving" I answered more sharply than intended, pulling my backpack on my back and dragging my suitcase towards her.
Nancy's lips thinned and she blinked back tears, she gulped at the huge lump in her throat loudly before she spoke to me again. Her voice was quivering voice as I stood in front of her.
"Mel, I want you to know that you can always come home to me. Your mother and father might be gone but you always have me, okay?."
"Thanks but I don't think I'll ever come back to Pineheart anymore. You saw the video that went viral, my life is ruined here and I was being bullied here anyways so it's for the best."
She pulled herself from the door and I noticed two grey bag she had in her hands, "Here. This is the perfume me and your mum use to make, make sure to wear it always and this are five black wigs to hide your hair."
I took both bags from her grip. I checked the contents to confirm and then picked out one of the black wigs before opening my suitcase to put the rest in it.
"Thanks" I told Nancy as I put on the black wig I picked out.
"What's the name of the boarding school you're going to?" She wondered.
"It's Prime academy at Prime valley" I explained.
"Prime valley?" She suddenly asked with a gasp. Her eyes widening, "Why?."
I let my hand trail over the necklace hanging down from my neck as I explained, "Because we lived there when dad was alive. And it's very far from here" Mum and moved to Pineheart after dad died years ago, now mum was dead too.
I intentionally didn't tell her the part where Dad appeared in my dream and told me to go there. It would seem weird right?.
Her loud voice took me by surprise, "Your mum and dad are dead. You should be trying to move on not go back into the past. Didn't your mum ever tell you about never stepping foot at Prime valley ever again?. You think there won't be werewolves anywhere you go?" she suddenly yelled.
Werewolves!. There's that word again, I rolled my eyes mentally.
Taken back by her outburst, I said, "She did, but never gave me a good reason. I just want to go to Prime academy. I can't stay here after that video. I can't live in this house alone now that mum's dead and I can't move in with you. I'm going to a boarding school. I want to go to the school dad went and not be called a freak."
And my freak, I meant werewolf.
"But Mel you ARE a werewolf. I know you and your mum have been trying to deny this but..." She paused wiping her exaggerated tears.
"Mel, you are a special werewolf and you can't fight it. You should be learning to accept it not run away from it."
"Nancy. I don't want to be a werewolf. I want to be a human. A normal teenager living a normal life and that's what I plan to do at Prime academy" I went past her with my suitcase.
She came after me as I dragged my suitcase down the long hall, I heard sniffing sounds as she got closer to me "Okay then. Mel, listen to me. Never leave school premises no matter what. No fighting. Keep a low profile and don't get into trouble," She said.
"Is that all?"
"I also lived at Prime valley and I want to tell you this. If you hear Blood moon pack at all, call me immediately. You don't even anything about Prime Valley. There are also werewolves at Prime Valley, Mel."
Her words barely registered in my head because at that moment, my phone beeped and a trendy video notification popped up, I tapped on it. It was the video of the scene that happened at my ex boyfriend's party where something strange had happened to me. Red fur had began spurting out of my skin after I got angry at Ivy for kissing my boyfriend Gambi.
The video had been going viral for 5 week now and it just hit 30 million views, my eyes became teary seeing, "Wolf girl" in the comments. I don't want to be a wolf. 'Freak of nature' like someone said in the comment.
My life was officially over!. I remember getting home that day to find my mother dead. Now all I can do for myself is leave this damned town.
"See Nancy" I halted and shoved the phone in Nancy's face, "everyone saw it, everyone saw what happened to me. I can't stay here anymore, my life here is over. I'm not wolf girl!."
She threw her hand up in exasperation, "You're a wolf Mel."
I lifted my heavy suitcase the rest of the way down the stairs, and into a car sent by Prime academy waiting outside the front door.
"Mel be safe, always use the perfume" Nancy yelled as I got into the car.
"Call me the minute you get there" she barked the order.
Nothing could make me stay at Pineheart because everyone knows I'm a werewolf now, I'll get more bullied at school for it. Or worse still, everyone would be afraid of me. I didn't even return to school after the video.
My trust fund had been more than enough, infact overflowing enough to register myself to Prime academy.
I received a text message from Gambi, my ex boyfriend and it says "Mel please pick up your phone we need to talk."
I blocked him immediately, time to leave everything behind!, Everything!.
