Steppenwolf split apart several times, then violently tore the emblem from his own body.
"Lin Chen, you bastard! I hate your guts—draw your sword and die!"
Filled with rage, Steppenwolf charged straight at Lin Chen with his giant axe.
Lin Chen drew the Heavenly Master Sword and shouted coldly, "Five Thunders!"
Boom!
Purple lightning engulfed the entire ventilation tower. Countless demons were struck by lightning, smoke rising as they screamed and died on the spot.
Roaring furiously, Steppenwolf charged through the lightning, his hatred for Lin Chen obvious.
Lin Chen leaned casually against Diana. "Wife, someone wants to hit me."
Wonder Woman raised her shield and slammed it backhandedly. The impact sent Steppenwolf crashing into the wall, dust exploding everywhere.
"This woman is amazing!"
"Too strong!"
"So heroic… so handsome!"
The kidnapped researchers whispered in awe.
Lin Chen smiled at them. "Everyone, my wife is embarrassing me."
"Master, you think we can't hear you? You're showing off!"
Several monsters swarmed toward Wonder Woman.
Steppenwolf roared in fury. "Amazon! You refuse a toast only to drink a fine! She's mine—everyone else, back off!"
Diana glared coldly. "I belong to no one."
"Hmph!"
Hearing Lin Chen snort, she added calmly, "Well… I belong to the Daoist priest."
"I'll kill you adulterous man and woman!"
Having been exiled for years, Steppenwolf already burned with frustration. Now, seeing this couple openly showing affection pushed him completely over the edge.
"Kill!!"
The two sides clashed again.
Lin Chen flew forward, executing the Ghost Valley Sword Technique and slashing Steppenwolf across the face. Blood splattered instantly.
But Steppenwolf recovered almost immediately—his self-healing ability was clearly terrifying.
"It's useless! You can't hurt me!" Steppenwolf laughed wildly as he attacked again.
"Is that so?" Lin Chen tossed out a talisman.
A flaming dragon burst forth, its jaws clamping down on the charging Steppenwolf!
The flame dragon's temperature was terrifyingly high.
Steppenwolf's armor quickly glowed red-hot. He roared, grabbed several demons, and hurled them into the flame dragon.
Barely breaking free, he hacked wildly at the dragon with his axe, then leapt away, escaping its grasp.
"Huff… huff…"
Steppenwolf stared at the flame dragon with lingering fear—he had almost been roasted alive.
"This Daoist has way too many abnormal abilities!"
Lin Chen glanced aside. Batman was being pressed into a corner by a demon, nearly knocked off the railing.
"Even fighting a soldier is this hard? That's pitiful."
Lin Chen pointed casually. Stones ripped free from the wall and smashed into the demon.
Batman climbed back up, visibly irritated. "I'll show you the true power of money!"
"Alfred—bring up the Bat Crab!"
Alfred remotely activated the vehicle as it crawled up along the wall.
Batman leapt into it in one smooth motion. "My turn!"
Rat-tat-tat!
The Bat Crab opened fire, mowing down demons in droves.
Lin Chen sighed. "How much do you think all those bullets cost?"
Steppenwolf leapt into the air and smashed his axe into the Bat Crab, sending both crashing down into the tunnel below.
Lin Chen and Diana followed.
Steppenwolf shook the dust off and charged again.
Diana slammed her bracers together with both hands. A powerful shockwave erupted, blasting Steppenwolf dozens of meters away.
He staggered to his feet, looking miserable, only for Batman to bombard him again with various mini-cannon rounds.
Bang! Bang!
Steppenwolf caught a flying shell with his bare hands, about to throw it back—
Roar!
Lin Chen summoned the flame dragon again, charging straight at him.
"Damn it!"
Steppenwolf hurled the shell away, blasting open the tunnel wall.
At that moment, a brilliant beam of light descended from above—the Mother Box forcibly summoned Steppenwolf away!
Seawater rushed in through the shattered wall, flooding the tunnel at terrifying speed.
"Get out—now!"
Batman maneuvered the Bat Crab upward. Lin Chen vaguely saw a figure wielding a trident—Aquaman had arrived.
Aquaman roared, slammed the trident into the ground, and forcibly controlled the raging seawater.
Diana sighed softly. "Where did that guy come from? He looks pretty good."
Lin Chen shook his head. "You're overthinking it."
Three seconds later, the sea surged again, sweeping Aquaman away.
Diana: "Lin! Take me away!"
Lin Chen grabbed her and flew out.
They reached the top of the tower just in time to see a pillar of light shooting into the sky from Wayne Manor.
"No—Steppenwolf went there."
Lin Chen immediately rushed over.
When they arrived at Wayne Manor, a massive hole had been blasted through the estate. Alfred and Miranda were unharmed, but their faces were pale.
Miranda murmured fearfully, "I'm sorry… I was just curious and took the cube out of the box… and then…"
She looked terrified and reached for Lin Chen's hand, but Diana stepped forward and blocked her.
"It's okay. Even if you hadn't touched it, once it resonated, it still would have summoned Steppenwolf."
Lin Chen waved it off. "It's fine. Even if he collects all three Mother Boxes, we can steal them back and hide them in a nuclear power plant. I doubt he'd expect that."
Batman soon rushed back and finally relaxed when he saw Alfred and Miranda safe.
Miranda immediately threw herself into Batman's arms, trembling.
Diana rolled her eyes.
Aquaman stepped forward. "So Steppenwolf already has one Mother Box? Where's the last one?"
Bang!
Cyborg crashed down from above, holding the final Mother Box.
He placed it on the table. "This one is dormant. It won't summon Steppenwolf. As long as we keep moving it, he won't be able to find it."
Lin Chen shook his head. "Two are already awake. The third won't stay asleep forever. It's only a matter of time."
"This strategy only delays things—it doesn't solve them."
The Flash asked, "Why don't we just destroy it? For example, with your flame dragon?"
Cyborg shook his head. "The Mother Box isn't afraid of fire. It absorbs energy instead—and that would only make it wake up faster."
Everyone fell silent.
Cyborg then explained the Mother Box's function. When he had been on the brink of death, his father used it to rebuild his body.
"Restore…?" Batman murmured.
"Anyone can burn a house to ashes," he said slowly, "but a Mother Box can turn ashes back into a house?"
A thought struck him. He looked at Lin Chen. "Daoist… is it possible…?"
Lin Chen nodded. "Yes. Superman can be resurrected."
Batman's eyes lit up. He had always blamed himself for Superman's death, believing he had been manipulated by Luthor.
Everyone agreed to bring Superman back.
Lin Chen felt obligated to warn him. "Bruce, when Superman wakes up, he's going to be irritable. Are you sure you want to be the one standing closest? Being thrown aside like a goose would be the mild outcome."
Batman's eyes were moist, but his voice was firm. "Even if he beats me a hundred times… I'll still treat him as a… friend."
Everyone present—except the women—took an unconscious step back.
This Batman… was a little terrifying.
