Lin Chen sighed inwardly."So I've finally mastered the Water-Escape Technique."
Excited, he grabbed Mera's face and kissed her fiercely.
Mera's face flushed red, but she did not push him away.
King Orm's eyes instantly turned bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead. Being cuckolded right in front of him nearly made his blood vessels burst.
"I'll kill you!"
He charged at Lin Chen in fury, thrusting his trident with full force—but it pierced nothing but empty water.
Lin Chen activated Water-Escape, reappearing on the opposite side with a hook-like movement.
King Nereus' pupils shrank."What kind of ability is that? Blink? Teleportation?!"
Steppenwolf leaned against a stone pillar, watching the scene with great interest, like a soap opera."Earth is way too complicated. The relationships are too chaotic. I just want my Mother Box."
He swam toward the Mother Box, intending to take it away. Just as his hand was about to grab it, Lin Chen shot forward through a water channel, snatched the Mother Box, and kicked Steppenwolf flying.
"Leave the Mother Box!" Steppenwolf roared anxiously.
He was full of regret. He had been too absorbed in watching the drama and had missed the best chance to seize it.
Lin Chen ignored him. Instead, he flashed beside the enraged King Orm and shoved the Mother Box into his hands.
"Protect the Mother Box. This is as far as I'll help you."
King Orm stared at the box in disbelief."What kind of nonsense are you pulling, you adulterer?!"
Lin Chen smiled calmly."Aren't you planning to attack the surface world and unify Earth? Start by trying your hand against this alien."
With that, Lin Chen took Mera and disappeared through a water channel.
"Give me the Mother Box!"
Steppenwolf charged over excitedly.
King Orm wasn't afraid either. He raised his trident and rushed forward."I'll kill you first, you ugly bastard!"
Clang!
The two exchanged several violent blows.
King Orm's hands went numb. If this hadn't been underwater—his home turf—he would have vomited blood already. Even so, he was clearly struggling.
Clang!
Steppenwolf raised his axe and slashed downward.
King Orm lifted his trident to block—but was sent flying by the impact.
The Atlantean soldiers were stunned.
"King Orm is… a bit weaker."
"Yesterday at the Water Company building, Chief Lin defeated Steppenwolf."
"No wonder Princess Mera ran away from the marriage. The gap between these two men is just too big."

King Orm flew into a rage and charged again.

Aquaman hurled a massive rock, blocking Steppenwolf's strike and joining the fight. The two brothers locked eyes and began to besiege Steppenwolf together.
They managed to hold him off for a short while.
The crowd sighed in relief."Brothers fighting together really makes a difference."
Aquaman laughed while fighting."Brother, do you still have a daughter-in-law? I'm still single!"
King Orm instantly lost it.
"Damn you!"
He stabbed fiercely at Aquaman.
Aquaman quickly blocked.
Steppenwolf seized the opportunity. With one axe swing, he sent both of them flying.
Just as he was about to grab the Mother Box and retreat—
"Bang!"
A water-dragon hook slammed into him and knocked him away.
Lin Chen had made his move.
Mera's eyes glowed white. She raised her hand, and a bubble instantly trapped Steppenwolf.
He broke free with difficulty, only to be smashed again by rocks from the seabed. The water dragon struck once more, leaving him utterly miserable.
Mera looked at Lin Chen with shining eyes."Daoist… we really work perfectly together."
Aquaman sighed."The coordination between the Taoist priest and my sister-in-law is unreal. You couldn't build that kind of chemistry even after years."
King Orm leaned against a reef, wounded, eyes hollow, lost in thought.
King Nereus, however, was thinking to himself:"This bargain son-in-law is quite powerful… Seeing how happy Mera is, I really can't bring myself to tear them apart."
After being beaten for several more minutes, Steppenwolf realized the Mother Box was impossible to retrieve today.
He shouted at Lin Chen,"Taoist! When Darkseid arrives, you'll be beaten to death!"
Lin Chen lifted the Mother Box."Without the Mother Box, Darkseid is nothing."
He was about to pull out the Emblem Luck Talisman when he suddenly remembered he was underwater.
"Too bad. You're lucky this time. The talisman doesn't work well in water. Otherwise, I'd have you perform a full split for my father-in-law."
Mera smiled sweetly."Master, you're so manly when you're angry. I really like it."
Steppenwolf shuddered and fled.
This time, he had attacked first and paid the price. His head was still spinning—but he had learned something critical:
Water could suppress the Emblem Talisman.
The Atlantean soldiers erupted in cheers.
"Long live Princess Mera!""The Daoist is mighty!"
The people of Atlantis revered strength. Without the Taoist priest and Mera, not only would the Mother Box have been taken, but they might all have died.
Lin Chen held the Mother Box in one hand and wrapped the other around Mera's waist.
"Aquaman, why are you here?"
Aquaman replied that he had been passing by and sensed the battle.
"Batman is looking for you. You know that, right?"
"I know," Aquaman said. "Didn't know him well. Ignored him."
Lin Chen shook his head."Steppenwolf is only the vanguard. If he gathers all the Mother Boxes and summons Darkseid, neither land nor sea will be spared."
"A boiling ocean. Think about that."
Aquaman fell silent.
The Atlantean soldiers, however, were shaken. If the ocean boiled, they would all die.
Mera clenched her fists."Master, we must stop Steppenwolf's plan."
King Nereus walked over, still shaken."Brother Lin, you must stop him. With great power comes great responsibility."
"Mera, come home with me. You're not strong enough to face that monster."
Lin Chen's eyelid twitched.
This old fox wanted to take Mera away, call him "brother," and dump the responsibility on him alone.
He smiled."Father-in-law, as king with hundreds of thousands of soldiers, surely you can guard the Mother Box."
He placed the Mother Box into King Nereus' hands, looking completely indifferent.
"Oh, and one more thing. The Mother Box can summon Steppenwolf at any time. His strength is… impressive. You'll need to guard it day and night."
King Nereus' eyelids jumped. His old bones could not handle that monster.
He turned to King Orm."Would your mother want you to take it?"
King Orm's face changed. He immediately looked away, playing dead.
King Nereus turned to Aquaman."You're also Queen Atlanna's son. Take responsibility."
Aquaman shook his head firmly."She gave birth but never raised me. Why should I bear her responsibilities?"
King Nereus stared at the hot potato in his hands."Daughter…"
Mera softened."Master, please help my father."
Though Lin Chen found him disgusting, he nodded.
"Father-in-law, give it to me. When Steppenwolf comes, I'll make him run in circles."
King Nereus was overjoyed."Brother! You're too kind."
He moved to hand it over.
Lin Chen frowned and said nothing.
King Nereus quickly lowered his voice."My… son-in-law, please trouble you."
"What?"
"Good son-in-law."
Lin Chen suddenly raised his voice."What? The Mother Box as a dowry?! Don't worry, Father-in-law. I'll handle it properly."
His voice echoed so loudly that sharks in the distance—and even mantis shrimp buried in the sand—could hear it across a large stretch of the Atlantic.
King Nereus' face darkened.
Mera snickered.Her father had never suffered such humiliation before.
