Early in the morning, Lin Chen left the Widow behind and returned to Gotham City. The house was filled with smoke. Catwoman and Harley had taken over cooking duties, but the results were… questionable.
Smoke hung everywhere, and the kitchen looked like a battlefield.
Lin Chen glanced at the dishes on the table, tasted one, and immediately gave up. There wasn't a single edible dish.
"Harley, are you using salt as sugar?"
"And what is this black thing?"
Harley Quinn waved her hands rapidly. "Master, Catwoman made that!"
Catwoman snorted. "At least there's food! Why are you being picky?"
Selena bared her little tiger teeth. "You people are too troublesome. You could just drink a little blood—why bother cooking?"
Poison Ivy took a bite of fruit and nodded in agreement.
Jill tugged at Lin Chen's sleeve. "Master, I want to eat meat!"
After finally cooking a proper meal himself, Lin Chen made a decision.
"I'm going to catch that runaway maid!"
"That Mera—lawless, careless, and skipping work!"
After comforting everyone, and since Diana still hadn't returned, Lin Chen simply flew toward Atlantis.
Fortunately, the jade pendant Mera wore still emitted a faint signal that Lin Chen could sense.
South Atlantic Ocean.Deep beneath the seabed.
Near the ruins of the old city of Atlantis, a place nearly abandoned, only the temple guarding the Mother Box remained protected.
Mera was listening to a report from a guard.
"Princess, I requested reinforcements from King Orm. The outer perimeter has been occupied by demons, but King Orm refused to send troops, saying other riot zones also require military strength."

But their attacks couldn't even scratch Steppenwolf's defense. With a few swings of his axe, soldiers were sent flying.
He sneered contemptuously. "Trash. You will be conquered!"
He lunged toward the Mother Box.
Mera raised her hands. Seawater surged, forming bubbles that wrapped tightly around Steppenwolf.
The surrounding water was violently displaced, slamming him to the ground.
With a wave of Mera's hand, a high-pressure water jet smashed into Steppenwolf, sending him flying.
"Finally, someone decent," Steppenwolf licked his lips.
He rushed forward, grabbed Mera by the neck, and was about to crush her.
Mera's fingers moved rapidly. The moisture inside Steppenwolf's body began overflowing violently—followed by blood.
Given more time, Steppenwolf would have been defeated.
He screamed in panic and flung Mera away with his hook.
Grabbing his axe, he chased after her, preparing a fatal strike.
Whoosh!
A water-dragon-shaped hook appeared, smashing into Steppenwolf and knocking him aside.
Mera, sent flying backward, was caught firmly in midair.
She turned her head—and saw Lin Chen.
Her eyes instantly reddened as she said pitifully, "Daoist… that guy bullied me."
Lin Chen held her in his arms and patted her gently. "You disobedient maid. I called you, and you just wouldn't listen."
Mera clutched his clothes and buried her face in his chest. "Master, I was worried the Mother Box would be stolen."
Lin Chen looked her over. "That outfit suits you. Shows off your figure."
Mera punched him lightly. "Bad man!"
"Adulter! Let her go!"
A furious roar echoed from outside the temple.
Lin Chen turned around to see King Orm arriving with elite soldiers.
At first glance, he saw Mera being held in another man's arms—intimately.
Orm's face instantly turned green.
The soldiers behind him whispered among themselves.
"Isn't that Daoist Lin?"
"Princess Mera is being hugged!"
"Daoist Lin looks amazing—he matches the princess perfectly."
"I'm his fan. I wonder if he can read my fortune."
"He scared away that monster yesterday."
"I wonder if King Orm is even his match."
Orm's face darkened completely.
Beside him, King Nereus—Mera's father—shouted, "Mera, thank the Daoist for saving you and come here at once!"
Then he turned to Lin Chen. "Master Lin, thank you for your help. I admire you greatly. Why don't we become family?"
"Marriage?" Lin Chen froze.
Was this king seriously trying to become his senior just to sabotage his relationship with Mera?
Before Lin Chen could speak, Mera panicked. "Father! You're not young anymore! The Daoist is so young—you're not worthy at all!"
King Nereus felt bitter. He was willing to lower himself, yet his daughter wasn't even happy.
Lin Chen shook his head. "Father-in-law, why bother? If you appreciate me, being your son-in-law is fine. We can drink later."
Mera smiled brightly and hugged Lin Chen tighter.
"You bastard! I haven't agreed yet!" Orm roared.
"Mera, listen to reason. People from the surface are all scumbags. Look at Queen Atlanna—she even had a child with a surface man…"
Orm's eyelids twitched violently. He felt as if he'd been greened once—and now again.
"What's wrong with surface people?" Aquaman stepped out from behind a reef. "We're not all scumbags. Like me!"
Orm glared at him. "You bastard born out of wedlock! How dare you come to Atlantis!"
Aquaman snapped back, "You're the bastard! Your whole family are bastards!"
Orm waved his hand. "Kill him!"
King Nereus hurriedly intervened. "Orm, although he's the queen's illegitimate son, he's still Atlantean royalty."
Orm turned furious. "Damn old man! Your daughter cuckolds me and you don't care, but you interfere with my business?"
"You call me old?!" Nereus exploded. "How old do you think you are? Our status is equal!"
Lin Chen shouted, "Father-in-law, he just looks down on you. He wants to rule the ocean himself!"
Orm roared angrily, "I am diligent, noble, and command the largest army! The other kings are either cowards or too old. I am the lord of the ocean—what's wrong with that?"
He raised his silver trident. "I'll kill! Kill! Kill today!"
Lin Chen instantly intervened. Orm's trident shot past King Nereus, narrowly missing him.
Mera's father broke into a cold sweat and quickly retreated with his men.
"Orm, you've gone too far!"
Lin Chen shouted, "So this is King Orm's plan—sneak attacking my father-in-law and seizing his kingdom!"
King Nereus glared furiously at Orm.
"I didn't mean to kill you," Orm tried to defend himself, but his pale face betrayed him.
Everyone saw through it.
Lin Chen knew this tactic well—Orm had once hired pirates to attack Nereus and blamed surface dwellers, preparing to wage war.
