Lila's POV
I had left the room but hid in a corner to hear what was happening there.
This was very abnormal to me. I had never….never in my life been fought over. Now for an Alpha and his brother to be fighting over me? What the heck was going on?
"Shut up." Alpha Vance yelled, shutting Cole up. "I do not want to have this argument with you, Cole. You can have her if you want to. You're right. You won the fight, so you won her I guess."
Cole sighed so loud that I could hear it from here — I mean, it had to be loud seeing as I didn't have my wolf to be able to have advanced hearing.
"I would have been gladdened by that information, Father, but you said she was your concubine. I can't imagine taking any of your concubines, Father. I don't do leftovers."
No. No, let him not reject me too.
"Oh, please. Lila is weak and useless. I would have killed her if I knew how weak she was, but now that you've found that she's your mate, I'm sure you're glad I didn't kill her aren't you?" Alpha Vance asked.
"I don't understand. What are you trying to say?" Cole's voice was a lot softer now.
"I'm saying that I've never touched her before. She wouldn't be able to handle me. So you can take her. She was basically just a maid around here."
Cole was silent for a while, and with how far this had come, I knew that this conversation was ending. I had to leave here before someone caught me eavesdropping and took me to Alpha Vance.
A little part of me wanted to stay and hear what Cole would say though, but that would not be a really good idea, so I left.
"Hey, Lila." I heard Holly's voice as I made my way to the kitchen.
"Holly. Oh my goodness, I'm so glad to see you here."
"Ummm, you've seen me today. Quite a lot of times, if I may add, so why are you glad to see me?" She placed her hands on her waist and tilted her head.
That was the thing with Holly. We haven't known each other forever, but we've grown so close that I feel like she can literally read through anything.
"You'll not believe what happened to me, Holly."
"Oh my. I heard that something was going on, but the guards wouldn't let me through. Come on." She grabbed my hand and led me up to her room. "Come and tell me everything that happened. Do not miss a single detail."
I followed her to her bedroom and recounted everything for her and by the time I was done, she was staring with her mouth open.
"And what did he say to his father then? Did he accept you or not?"
"I didn't wait to find out. I didn't want the guards….or Jade to find me eavesdropping. I'd rather still have my head on my shoulders, thank you." I rolled my eyes with a laugh.
A guard opened the door. "Cole, the Alpha of the bloodthorn pack and your mate requests your presence in his quarters right away, Miss Lila."
"Go on." Holly pushed me, knowing that I was about to hesitate, and then whispered. "Fill me in on everything afterwards."
I nodded and winked at her, flashing her a wide smile.
I didn't want to show it, but I was scared. I had not told Holly or anyone else this part of my story, but I was rejected by a previous mate. No one wanted to be with a werewolf that had no wolf. No one wanted to be with The Alpha's Plague.
I was taken up three flights of stairs until we got to a door.
"We'll leave you here now. You're free to walk in whenever you're ready." The two guards said and went on their way.
What the hell does that mean? I'm free to walk in whenever I'm ready. What if I'm not ready?
I took a deep breath and pushed open the door, and I was stunned at the room that stood before me.
It had a giant cloud bed right in the center of the room, and the room was still really big around it. What the hell? Now I see why they called it a quarter instead of a room.
"Hey, come on in." Cole came out of somewhere that looked like a….kitchen?
What the hell was this place?
"Do you have any problems with your hearing? Come and take a seat." Cole snapped at me.
Shit. I was already messing up and I hadn't even started.
"I'm so sorry," I begged and hurried to sit beside him on the couch.
Help me, Moon Goddess, because I really don't know how to go about this today.
"You're my mate, do you know that?" He asked.
I guess we're going straight to the point over here.
"Yes sir. I felt it when you walked in." I answered straight to the point too.
"Call me Cole."
"Yes, Cole." I flashed him a little smile.
He didn't smile back, but his face was a bit more pleasant this time.
"You said you felt it when I walked in?"
"Yes sir… Cole." I quickly corrected myself.
"What did you feel?" He leaned closer to me, his woodsy perfume causing my stomach to flutter. "Because from the information I've gathered, you do not have a wolf."
I gasped and looked up at him. "I do have a wolf. Who told you I didn't?"
"One of my father's concubines. Her name is Jade. She claims that you do not have a wolf. My father thinks you have one though, but it just hasn't shown itself yet."
"And your father is right," I said quickly, causing him to laugh.
"I know that, because my wolf called to you. I don't care that you do not have a wolf or powers yet. It doesn't change the fact that you're my mate. But I have to know more about you if this is going to happen."
He accepts me as his mate, even with the fact that I don't have powers.
He accepted me.
