"You didn't answer my question, young man." Donna snapped, recalling Elena's threat. "What on earth are you doing here?" She hissed, stepping out of the room and closing the door sharply behind her as though shielding someone from him.
Derek blinked hard, his hand falling limply to his side "Wait...what? I should be asking you that question, Mom. What are you doing here...in the city...in Elena's house of all people? Aren't you supposed to be back at home in the countryside with Dad? Why didn't you even call me to say you were around? I could have brought you home."
"Don't raise your voice at me, you little ingrate." Donna barked at him, her tone laced with authority that could still shrink him, even as a grown man. "I don't owe you any explanation about where I should or shouldn't be. So, you'd better answer my question before I lose it. What are you doing at Elena's house?"
