Ruby froze, her head snapping back in shock. "Kai!" She breathed, her voice barely above a whisper. She hadn't expected to see him here. But then again, it made perfect sense. Every billionaire in town was at the birthday celebration.
"Hi," Kai said softly, placing his handkerchief into her open palm.
His fingers brushed deliberately against hers, sending a sharp electrifying wave through her body. "You look breathtakingly beautiful."
Ruby exhaled shakily, clutching the handkerchief as warmth flushed her cheeks.
She quietly observed her surroundings to see if anyone was staring at her. But thankfully, everyone was too busy cheering and fawning over the celebrant to notice her, or so she thought.
"Thanks," she murmured sweetly, dabbing at her eyes.
"I thought you could use some company," Kai said, stepping aside with a knowing smile.
"Ah!" Ruby gasped, her lips parting in surprise.
