I returned to the courtyard with unbridled anger, each step echoing in the stiff, oppressive air.
How could she? She knew so well what that room meant to me, and yet she chose to taste what I could do.
I knew Amanda was new here, and the moment I felt the distressed tremors of my wolf Rumus, I knew something was wrong with her. I had to leave the meeting at once without warning, and that was when a maid walked up to me outside the courtyard and said Amanda was in distress.
I remembered the maid. Her name was… yes, Kate. I had overheard her talking with Amanda the other day at the laundry house when I'd sneaked in to make sure the guard I had instructed had washed the laundry for her.
I never wanted Amanda doing those jobs; it was just a way to make her obey my bidding of her own accord. But to my amazement, even after that day, even after I'd sent for her, she still looked so timid and unyielding.
