Night had settled in by the time Shuo Nangong slipped his address to Miku and kissed her goodbye.
Another lost girl saved, another victory for the self-appointed hero. He walked home with a grin that just wouldn't quit.
The front door creaked open.
Inside, the living room was a riot of color—girls everywhere, sprawled across the sofa, laughter and snacks filling the air.
Heads turned as Shuo stepped in.
Tohka, cheeks stuffed with chips, squinted at him. "Mmm, Shuo, you look way too happy."
He ruffled her hair, smile widening.
"Of course! Today was a win—I scored big and did a good deed."
Kotori, legs crossed and lollipop in hand, shot him a withering look.
"Good deed? Please. I bet you just seduced another clueless girl, you perv."
Shuo feigned innocence, but Kotori's eyes were sharp as daggers.
Tohka's snack paused halfway to her mouth. "Wait, is that true, Shuo?"
He knelt beside her, speaking gently.
"Don't listen to Kotori. She's just jealous."
Kotori snorted. "Me? Jealous of a lolicon like you? Dream on."
Shuo grinned. "Oh? Getting defensive, are we?"
Tohka watched their banter, lost. She shrugged and returned to her snacks, blissfully munching away—foodie princess, through and through.
Suddenly, Nia's voice boomed from the side, dramatic as ever.
"Whoa, young man! You've been naughty. Out on a date with a gorgeous celebrity, huh?"
Everyone turned.
Nia brandished Rasiel, her Angel, flipping through its search pages with expert speed.
Her eyes widened. "No way! Your date today was Yuzuru Miku—the superstar! And you…"
Before she could spill more, Shuo snatched Rasiel from her hands, glare icy.
"Try spying on me again and I'll seal your spirit powers. And your phone's gone, too. Got it?"
Nia panicked, diving for his legs, sobbing theatrically.
"Please, young man! Give Rasiel back! I was wrong—I'll behave! I can't lose Rasiel and my phone!"
He relented, handing it back. "Fine, fine! But stop rubbing snot and tears on me!"
Nia instantly switched gears, beaming through her tears. The girls just stared, speechless.
Tohka eyed him, voice small. "Who's Yuzuru Miku? Did you…?"
Origami, Kotori, and Yoshino exchanged glances, faces unreadable.
Shuo hesitated, then smiled, patting Tohka's head.
"It's not what you think. Miku's a Spirit, too. She's been through a lot."
He recounted Miku's story—the pain, the injustice, the rescue.
Sympathy flickered across every face. Even Reine remembered the rooftop two years ago, the desperate girl she'd saved with a Spirit crystal.
Nia, fuming, gripped Rasiel tight.
"That's disgusting! Which sleazy TV station did that to her? Abusing girls, smearing reputations—makes me sick!"
"I'll expose those creeps! Trash like that should just disappear!"
She dove into Rasiel's pages again, then stopped, jaw dropping.
"Wait—this guy's dead?! Stung by wasps while trying to mess with a nest for kicks? That's… that's so stupid it's hilarious! Ahahahaha!"
Nia collapsed onto the sofa, laughing until she cried. Shuo just shook his head.
At least the mood had lightened.
Everyone seemed reassured, the storm passing with stories and snacks.
Later that night, Shuo stretched out on his bed, finally relaxed.
Then—soft footsteps outside his door. The handle turned, the door creaked open.
A petite figure slipped in, scurried across the room, and dove under his blanket.
Shuo blinked in disbelief.
"Yoshino?!"
The shyest, sweetest girl in the house—here, in his bed.
She peered up at him, eyes wide and watery.
"Big brother, I missed you."
Guilt twisted in Shuo's chest.
"I'm sorry, Yoshino. I haven't spent enough time with you."
He hugged her gently. Since joining the family, weekends were their only real time together.
Even adorable little Spirits needed love.
"Tomorrow, let's go out and have some fun, okay?"
Yoshino's face lit up. She pecked his cheek, giggling.
"Mm! I love big brother the most!"
Shuo smiled, stroking her hair.
"Good night, Yoshino."
"Good night, big brother."
Morning sunlight crept through the curtains.
BAM!
Kotori burst in, kicking open the door and yanking off Shuo's blanket.
"Wake up, idiot! The sun's already up—get out of bed!"
Then she froze, eyes bulging.
"You… you perverted lolicon! What did you do to Yoshino?!"
The commotion drew the others. Tohka, Origami, and the rest crowded into the room.
Tohka's eyes went flat, darkening with suspicion.
Shuo woke, saw Tohka gripping Sandalphon, murder in her gaze.
Crap. Is she about to invert?!
He scrambled to explain.
"Tohka, calm down! It's not what you think!"
"Then why was Yoshino sleeping with you?"
He swallowed, voice shaky.
"I've been neglecting her lately. She was scared, so… Besides, she calls me big brother. It's normal for siblings to sleep together, right?"
Tohka pondered, then nodded.
"Yeah… I guess that makes sense. I've seen brothers and sisters sleep together in anime."
Shuo latched onto the lifeline. "Exactly! But, uh, what anime was that?"
Tohka tapped her chin, eyes wide and innocent.
"Something called… Yosuga no Sora, I think?"
Shuo's face fell, black lines forming in his mind.
Seriously, what is she watching?!
"Tohka, promise me you won't watch that anime anymore."
"Why?"
"You don't need to know. Just promise, and I'll take you to the amusement park next time. And buy you all the snacks you want."
"Really? I promise!"
Amusement park! Snacks!
Tohka's eyes sparkled, mouth nearly watering with anticipation.
