"Why are you so quiet?" Axel asked as they walked toward the dining hall, slowing his steps slightly so he could match Dallas's pace. He tilted his head just a little, watching him from the corner of his eye. "Something on your mind?"
"No, not really," Dallas answered quickly.
Axel immediately knew the question had been pointless. Of course there were things on Dallas's mind.
How could there not be?
Erika had stormed out earlier, accused him of cheating, claimed they weren't mates, and then left without explaining a single thing.
No one walked away from something like that with a clear head.
Axel pressed his lips together as guilt crept in.
It was because of him.
Erika had said Dallas was cheating on her with him. The thought alone made Axel's stomach twist. How could she even say something like that?
Dallas would never do such a thing. He wasn't that kind of person. He wasn't reckless, or dishonest, or cruel enough to betray someone like that.
