When they got back into the room, it was empty. None of the other roommates were there yet. Axel paused just inside the doorway, his eyes drifting briefly toward the other beds, then toward the window where the sky outside had already begun to darken.
Night was settling in,..
He wondered, distantly, where those two spent their time all day, and even now when the night was already due.
But the thought barely lingered. It didn't matter. It wasn't his business. His head was already crowded with too many things that mattered far more than the whereabouts of people he barely interacted with.
Before Axel could even open his mouth to say anything, Dallas walked past him and headed straight for the bathroom.
"I'm going to take a shower," he said, already reaching for the door.
Axel only nodded, watching him disappear inside before the door closed.
The silence that followed felt thicker than before.
