Chapter 39 - Ashes Don’t Lie

North Valley — Midnight Alley

Andrea walked through the rain, her boots echoing on the pavement. The world around her was asleep, but she wasn't.Not anymore.

Her black jacket dripped with rainwater and something darker. In her hand — a blade. Cold. Silent.

She followed the sound of voices down the alley behind a corner store. Two figures.Nate and Chris — Miyagi-Do survivors.

They were laughing nervously, their clothes still torn from the last street battle.

"You think they're still out there?" Nate asked, glancing over his shoulder.

Chris shrugged, forcing a grin. "Cobra Kai's gone, man. News said they were all shot down. It's over."

Andrea's voice cut through the rain like a blade."Then why are you still breathing?"

Both froze.

She stepped from the shadows, eyes black under her hood.Chris's jaw dropped. "Andrea… no way—"

Andrea tilted her head. "You should've stayed dead quiet."

Chris tried to reason, his voice shaking. "Andrea, please. You don't need to do this. Cobra Kai's over! Miguel's gone, Hawk's gone—"

Andrea's hand trembled — just for a second. Then, she moved.

A flash of silver. A sharp gasp.Nate fell to his knees, clutching his side. Chris screamed his name, but Andrea didn't stop. She slammed him against the wall, the rain turning red around them.

Chris looked into her eyes — and for a moment, he saw pain. Not rage. Not hatred. Pain.

Andrea whispered in his ear, "You chose them over us."

One final strike. Silence.

She stood over them both, chest heaving. The sound of thunder rolled above, like the world itself wept for what she had done.

She closed her eyes for a moment, her voice breaking."I didn't want this… but you made me."

Moments Later — Empty Street

Andrea walked until her legs ached. The adrenaline faded, leaving only emptiness. She stopped under a streetlight, wiping her blade clean, when she heard it—

A quiet, familiar voice.

"...Andrea?"

She froze.

Turning slowly, she saw him.Demetri.

He looked older, thinner, bruised, but alive. He stepped forward carefully, holding his hands up."I knew it was you," he said softly. "You haven't changed much… just colder."

Andrea's lips twitched. "Colder's what kept me alive."

Demetri's eyes filled with sorrow. "You don't have to do this anymore."

"I already did."

He looked past her — saw the blood trailing behind her boots. His voice shook. "Please… don't make me your next target. I'm not your enemy."

Andrea took a step closer. "Everyone is."

Demetri swallowed hard but didn't move. "You remember what Hawk used to say? 'Strike first, strike hard, no mercy.' I used to think that was cool. But look what it did to all of you."

Andrea's breath hitched. Hawk's name cut deep.

Demetri's voice softened. "Miguel forgave people. You can too. I don't think you're gone yet."

For a long moment, she just stared at him. Her hand trembled over the knife. Then, she dropped it.

Demetri exhaled shakily, relief washing over his face.

Andrea whispered, "You're lucky I remember what friendship feels like."

She turned away and disappeared into the darkness.

Across Town — Johnny's Hideout

Johnny sat in his dark motel room, clutching a half-empty bottle. The police scanner buzzed in the background.

"...Law enforcement continuing search for fugitive John Lawrence, suspected in the murder of John Kreese…"

He sighed, pressing his hands over his face. "What the hell did I do, man…"

Suddenly, a flash of headlights outside the window. He froze. The sound of car doors. Heavy boots.

"Shit."

Johnny grabbed his phone. His hands were shaking as he scrolled through contacts — hesitating on Daniel's name.

He muttered, "This is gonna suck," and hit call.

Miyagi-Do Ruins — Night

Daniel was sitting by the remains of the dojo, staring at the ashes where Mr. Miyagi's photo used to hang. Amanda sat beside him, her hand over his.

The phone rang.

He picked up tiredly. "Yeah?"

"...LaRusso."

Daniel's voice hardened. "Johnny?"

"Yeah, it's me. I don't got much time. Cops are on my ass."

Amanda sat up straight, eyes wide. Daniel's grip tightened on the phone. "Johnny, what did you do?"

Johnny's voice was rough, shaking. "I killed Kreese. He had it coming. But listen—"

"What? Johnny, Jesus Christ—"

"Listen to me!" Johnny snapped. "It's not about that right now. Andrea's out there. She's killing Miyagi-Do kids. Two are down already. You have to stop her before she gets to you."

Daniel's stomach dropped. "What— what are you talking about?"

"She burned your dojo, didn't she?" Johnny growled. "You think that was random? She's gone full Cobra Kai — worse than me, worse than Kreese ever was."

Amanda covered her mouth. Chozen looked up from the corner, hearing every word.

Daniel's voice dropped. "Where are you, Johnny?"

Johnny hesitated, glancing at the flashing lights outside his motel. "Corner of Cahuenga and 5th. But hurry. They'll find me first."

"Don't move," Daniel said firmly. "I'm coming to get you."

Meanwhile — Andrea's Hideout

Andrea stood in front of a broken mirror, her reflection cracked in a dozen places. Her breathing was slow, controlled — but her eyes… they were gone. Hollow.

She touched the mirror, staring at her reflection's smile. "This is who I am now."

She slipped Hawk's old Cobra Kai jacket on, zipped it up, and whispered:"No mercy. Not anymore."

The city lights flickered outside the window — a storm rising once again over the Valley.
