Chapter 41 - The Hunt for Mercy

The Valley — 10:43 P.M.

The night had returned to its usual silence. No riots, no gunfire — just the distant hum of the freeway and the rain starting to whisper against the rooftops. But for the LaRussos, silence had never been this terrifying.

Amanda closed the curtains, her eyes darting between the shadows outside. Sam sat on the couch, gripping her phone, trying not to look at the headlines still flashing across the screen.

"Cobra Kai Survivor Still Missing — Police on High Alert."

Amanda switched the TV off. "Don't look at that, Sam."

Sam's voice cracked. "How can I not? She's killing them, Mom. One by one. That's not Andrea anymore."

Amanda turned toward her, steady but tired. "I don't know who she is right now. But I know she's not beyond saving."

Sam shook her head. "You didn't see what she did to Chris. To Nate. You didn't hear how Johnny found Kreese."

Amanda sat beside her, pulling her into a hug. "That's exactly why you stay inside. I promised your dad I'd keep you safe."

There was a long silence. Only rain tapping on the windows.

Then — a sound. A quiet scrape outside.

Amanda froze. "Stay here."

Sam's heart started racing. "Mom—"

"Stay here!" Amanda whispered sharply, grabbing the baseball bat Daniel kept by the door.

She stepped closer to the window, slowly pulling the curtain aside.Nothing. Just rain.

But she could feel it — someone was out there.

A Few Blocks Away — Daniel's Car

The rain poured harder as Daniel gripped the steering wheel. Johnny sat in the passenger seat, bruised but alert, and Chozen watched the streets like a soldier tracking ghosts.

"Anything from the cops?" Johnny asked.

Daniel shook his head. "They've got patrols across the city, but no one's seen her. No cameras. No prints."

"Of course not," Johnny muttered. "That girl learned stealth from the best. Hawk. Robby. Me."

Chozen turned from the window. "And now she uses those lessons against you."

Daniel exhaled, guilt written all over his face. "This is my fault. I should've shut it down before it got this far. Before she—"

Johnny cut in, "Don't. Don't start that crap. This ain't on you."

Chozen looked between them. "We can argue later. For now, we find her. Before she finds Samantha."

Daniel nodded. "I told Amanda to keep Sam locked inside. They'll be safe."

Johnny scoffed. "Safe? With that girl out there? You really think a locked door's gonna stop her?"

Back at the LaRusso House

Amanda crept down the hallway, the bat steady in her hand. The house lights flickered for a moment — then went dark.

Sam gasped. "Mom?"

Amanda whispered, "Stay down."

They both froze as footsteps echoed softly on the porch.

Then — a knock.

Three slow knocks.

Amanda's hand shook slightly.

Sam whispered, "What if it's Dad?"

Amanda hesitated, then raised her voice. "Who's there?"

No answer. Just the sound of rain.

Then, a whisper — muffled, but close.

"Sam."

Sam's blood ran cold. That voice.

Amanda's eyes widened, the bat trembling slightly in her grip.

Andrea.

Amanda turned off her flashlight, motioned for Sam to hide behind the couch. She took a deep breath and inched toward the door.

Through the rain-blurred glass, she saw the shape of a girl. Wet, motionless, her hair clinging to her face.

Amanda whispered, almost to herself, "Oh God."

Andrea tilted her head — just slightly — and smiled.

Then the glass cracked.

Amanda screamed, "Sam, RUN!"

On the Road — Moments Later

Johnny's phone buzzed violently. He looked down — Amanda LaRusso.

"Put her on speaker," Daniel said.

Johnny hit the button. "Amanda, what's going on?"

Her voice came through, panicked and muffled by chaos. "She's here! She's in the house!"

Daniel's face went white. "Hold her off! We're coming!"

They swerved around the next corner, the rain spraying across the windshield.

Chozen's tone was ice-cold. "Drive faster."

Daniel's knuckles tightened on the wheel. "I am."

LaRusso Residence — Interior

Andrea smashed through the front window, rolling into the living room with the fluid grace of a trained fighter. She stood up slowly, her face lit by the dim lightning flashes outside.

Amanda swung the bat — Andrea caught it mid-air.

The two locked eyes.

Amanda gritted her teeth. "You don't have to do this."

Andrea's voice was quiet, trembling but sharp. "You said the same thing to Hawk before you called the cops."

Amanda's breath caught. "That wasn't—"

Andrea yanked the bat from her grip and shoved her back. "You destroyed us. All of us."

From upstairs, Sam yelled, "Andrea, stop!"

Andrea looked up, her eyes softening — for half a second."Sam…"

Sam took a slow step down the stairs, her voice shaking. "This isn't you. Please. You don't have to—"

Andrea's hand tightened around the bat. "You think I want this? You think I chose it? They took everything. Robby. Hawk. Miguel."

Tears started down her face — but her expression didn't break.

Sam whispered, "Then stop before you lose yourself too."

Andrea's jaw clenched. "Too late."

Lightning flashed.

Amanda lunged forward to pull Sam back — and that's when the door burst open.

Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen entered together, soaked from the rain.

Johnny shouted, "Andrea, stop!"

She turned, bat still in hand, her body shaking.

Daniel froze. His voice dropped to a whisper. "Andrea…"

For the first time in weeks, her expression faltered — pain replacing the rage.

Daniel stepped forward slowly. "You're not alone. You never were."

Andrea's lip trembled. Her hands shook as the bat slipped from her fingers.

For a moment — just a moment — the storm went silent.

Then the sirens grew louder again.
