Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Will You Marry Me?

XANDER

He laughed and stood up from the stole he sat down on, the sound which was bad it stung my ears. " Do you think this is a joke?" I asked and he waved his hand in front of me, his other hand clutching to his stomach.

" I'm sorry. What did you say?"

" I'm her husband, that's what I said." I replied and he burst out laughing again.

" She didn't tell me anything about you? Oh yeah, because she doesn't know you. I'm sure you're one of those men who are after her now that we didn't get married."

" Well at least I'm not a lying cheating scumbag who fucks my fiancée's sister."

Ouch.

That must have hurt.

His smile flipped, his fists curling at his sides. " You fucking motherfucker!" He growled, charging for me.

A fight.

Finally, after so long.

I adjusted my suit as he swung his hand in my direction— trying to punch me but failing badly.

I twisted his arm so hard, I heard a bone crack. He groaned and I kicked his stomach his body flying across the room, crashing against the stool he sat and breaking it pieces.

" You're bleeding already? What a bummer!"

I really wanted more of a challenge. He pushed out a cough, blood spilling from his lips.

I walked to the mattress and sat beside my supposed wife and wrapped my hand around her neck, pulling her close. I bent down to her frame moving down to her ears. " Wake up wifey."

____

I felt soft lips rubbing against my ears. " Wake up wifey." Came the masculine voice, one I remembered quite well. The Grim Reaper.

My lashes lifted, my gaze locking on his cold, blue eyes. " You're up…How are you feel—" he couldn't finish his words when Darren stood from the ground and pushed him to the side, taking my hand in his.

" Princess. My sweet heart. My baby. How are you feeling?"

Ignoring the weakness I felt, I pushed him off, fixing my gaze back at Grim. Since I didn't know his name, I'll just call him Grim. " I'm fine, thank you."

His lips lifted as he reached for my hand and planted a soft kiss on it. My chest felt like exploding, my skin prickled with heat. " I was so worried." His spoke in a very raspy voice.

If I didn't know he was acting, I would fallen for his words but I couldn't. It wasn't real. Just like Darren's feelings for me, just like my family's feelings for me.

" Did anyone come see me?" I asked Grim, secretly wishing he would say someone did. " I'd asked the nurse on my way here and she said, apart from your first husband, no one did."

Not even Mother?

" Are you okay?" He asked again and I nodded. " I'm fine."

I could see Darren's eyes burning with hatred for Grim. " What are you still doing here? Can't you see my husband and I are having a conversation?" I asked and he hissed.

" Oh cut the crap Letta!"

A nickname he used to call me, one which made my heart flutter but now, those flutters were gone and replaced with nothing but deep, hatred. " I know this man isn't your husband."

I was about to speak when Grim interrupted me. " You're right, I'm not!"

" What are you saying? You are?" I said.

" Not yet." He reached into his tux pocket and pulled out a box— a ring box. What was he going to do…

He fell to the ground on one knee. His hands lifted the lid of the box, a black diamond ring sat in the centre of the box, his eyes glimmering darkly, a small smile framing his already chiseled jaw. " Nicolette Dimitri."

I swallowed hard. My heart pounding. " Will you marry me?"

" Yes!"

" No!" Darren yelled, smashing the box to side, the ring falling to the ground.

I could see Grim's eyes darkening and something told me he was probably going to take Darren's soul. " He's not the love of your life!"

" I am! I am the man you love! Does all our memories mean nothing? How could you just replace me that way? We didn't even broke up and you're already with someone else, that's wrong!"

" But it's right when you do it!" I yelled, my hold around the blanket tightened. " You're the only one who has the right to cheat and I don't? Yes, I cheated and he loves me and I will marry him."

" No. You can't leave me." His voice dropped to a whimper. " I need you."

Classic Darren.

Making my heart melt with his words and some how, I almost believe him, I almost wanted to go back into his arms and hug him and totally forget all that happened but I couldn't.

Nothing could change the fact that he slept with my sister and that he was the father of her unborn child.

" Just get out of here, now!" I avoided his gaze, my eyes stinging.

" Letta."

" Out!"

" Letta please."

" She said get out!" Grim grabbed his neck and jammed his back to the wall.

" Grim don't. Don't hurt him." I said, throwing the blanket off me and jumping down the bed. I ran to them, my hand curling around his waist. " Don't hurt him Grim. Please."

I whispered hoping he would listen and he did. He slowly, released Darren. His body falling to the ground as he tried to gather his breath.

" I'm sorry." Grim said, facing me. But I was too weak to respond. My body felt wrecked. My legs tilted, my head hazy.

" My Lady." Grim calls, his hand circling my waist once more.

And just like before, I felt the insane flutter in my chest, the crazy beating of my heart, the. My haziness cleared and all of a sudden, I became hyper aware the thinness of the space between us.

" You need some rest. My Lady." He said again and I didn't know why my heart skipped when he called me his lady.

His hand found my upper back and lower thigh as he lifted my from the ground, his eyes intently fixed on mine as his long legs carried me to the mattress.

He reached for the blanket and tucked me properly in bed. Planting a soft kiss on my forehead. " Get some sleep. Okay?" he said and my stomach bubbled.

God, why am I feeling this way.
