NICOLETTE
Grim called security and made sure that Darren was out of my ward as soon as possible. As much as I hated him a small part of me still wanted to forget it all and be with him.
He was my husband, he was the man I loved, he was my everything. I remember those times in the past when he would kiss me softly and tell me everything's okay, when he would hold my hand and look at me like I was the only one who'd existed. But now it was all gone.
Like all men, he left me and went for someone better.
I mean I couldn't blame him for choosing Thalia. Look at her, hourglass curves, smooth skin no scars, from a rich family, hot while me? I'm just old and stupid Nicolette.
A lone tear slid down my cheeks.
I wiped the liquid immediately, no one could see me cry, not even Grim. He'd probably call me pathetic— not like I cared what he thought…

Came the sound of the door as someone opened it.
I adjusted myself on the mattress, making sure I was as presentable as I could be then faced whoever it was.
It was Grim.
" You're up?" He asked as he pulled out a stool and threw his weight on it, the chair squeaking from the impact.
I replied with a nodd.
Trying to avoid the heat which warmed my neck.
" How are you feeling now?"
" I'm better thank you.."
" Are you sure, you're okay?"
Am I okay?
A question I wished people asked but they never did. Darren tried but now, it was all down the drain.
My lips formed a tight smile. " Trust me, I'm ok—"
" Then why are you crying?"
My lips twitched, a frown threatened to deep through. " What are you saying? I told you I was fine!" I barely tried to keep my tone in check.
Why was I upset?
I don't know.
" I know you're hurt…"
" You don't know anything about me!" I snapped, my chest heaving erratically.
" I know more than you think I do…" his voice remained calm and his stance unflinching and that somehow pissed me off even further.
He inched closer. " A girl who just found out that the love of her life cheated on her wouldn't be all smiles, I know you're hurt and you don't have to hide—"
" How do you know that!" I tried to sound normal but the crack in my voice gave it away. " How do you know that I'm not okay…"
" Because I'm your husband." A smirk pulled at his lips and I couldn't help but smile at his words.
" Shut it! Grim."
" Grim?"
Right, I didn't know his name. " What's your name then?" I asked, wanting to push away the sadness which burned deeply into my heart.
" Xander."
" Nicolette but I'm sure you know that.." I replied with a chuckle but he didn't say anything.
" Are you hungry?" He questioned after some minutes of silence.
" Yeah, a bit."
" What would you like?"
" Anything would be fine…" I shrugged and he nodded and made for the door. At the moment, the doctor walked in which made him hault in his tracks, returning back to seat probably to hear what the doctor has to say.
" How is she doctor?"
" Well, for someone who fell from three rows of stairs and also broke her head and then lost a hug amount of blood, she is fine."
I exhaled and so did Xander, but I couldn't help but wonder why? Why did he care?
" But what is surprising is." The doctor pulled out his tablet showing me and tracing his fingers across the screen. " When you fell, your broke your spine but right now." He swiped to another image probably of my spine. " It's perfectly fine, which is quite strange."
He shot me a suspicious glance. My stomach twisted. " Well doctor, I tend to heal fast that others." I shrugged pushing some air through my mouth.
His suspicions lingered but he didn't push it. " Can I leave today?"
" Yes, you can leave. I'll administer the drugs you need and prepare your papers."
" Thank you." I muttered and he walked away. Leaving just me and Xander who now held a bag, one containing some food my stomach did a thing and I tried to blame it on the hunger.
" When did you leave?" I asked, ignoring the storm which brewed within me.
" A second ago." He replied stalking to the chair he once occupied and pulling out a table from the side. "I ordered some food."
He dished the food on the table and I couldn't help but notice how his muscles flexed as he moved, his thick black hair dangling over me as his gaze was fixed on what he was doing.
He looked up and our eyes met sending a slight shiver down my spine— it wasn't the bad kind.
" Eat up." His lips moved, his blue eyes staring deep into me, probably to the depths of my soul. I swallowed, my throat dry.
He stepped away and air flooded into my probably empty lungs. I reached for my spoon with trembling fingers but his gaze didn't leave me, he watched as I took every bite, every spoon, every gulp, he watched.
Usually, that would make me embarrassed and uncomfortable but I felt a sense of comfort which was something I wasn't supposed to feel when sitting next a Grim Reaper.
A man who took souls for a living.

I finished my meal and got changed. Xander paid the bill since I wasn't with my purse or wallet then we walked out of the clinic to meet an already waiting car.
Xander moved to the door and pulled it open. " Thank you." I said as I entered, he walked to the other side and settled in the driver's seat.
" Where to?" His hand circled the wheel. " My house or yours?"
" You have a house?"
" A mansion, My Lady."
