Chapter 2 - I hate you

Their eyes were still locked in a fixed gaze, both of them not willing to back down and relinquish dominance.

"Why is Lucian making his way towards us?" Axel who was standing a step behind Jace frowned, feeling uncomfortable.

"He is my mate." Jace's voice was low, his eyes still locked on Lucian who was still a distance away.

"Are you sure? He is also an Alpha." Axel's frown deepened.

Alpha and alpha bond pairing was extremely rare.

"Yes but don't worry, I still plan on killing him." Jace assured and Axel sighed, wondering how he had found himself in such a situation.

Lucian eventually approached, standing a couple of steps away from Jace.

"I don't believe we have been introduced." His voice was deep and smooth with a trace of curiosity that made Jace's jaw tighten in anger.

Of course Lucian didn't know who he was.

"I am Jace." He murmured, trying to keep himself from glaring.

He watched as Lucian reluctantly broke their eye contact, his stormy grey eyes wandering and taking in his appearance.

With thick chestnut hair, a perfectly sculptured face and well built body, Lucian was impressed with his mate's appearance as he let himself inhale the strangely familiar cedarwood scent that delighted scenes.

"I am Lucian." He casually replied as he took a sip of his wine, their eyes meeting again.

Despite not wanting to, Jace found himself staring, trying not to be notice how good looking the mafia lord was.

His midnight black hair framed a systemitcal and fine masculine face that held a pair of ashen grey eyes that seemed to add a layer of mystery to the alpha.

"Is that your boyfriend?" Lucian asked as he looked at the man that was standing way too close to his mate.

His mouth turned sour with jealousy as he waited for Jace to reply.

Axel was so clearly startled by the suggestion but he refrained from replying when Jace shot him a look that silently pleaded with him not to say anything.

"That is not your business." Jace's voice was much harsher than he had excepted as he glared at Lucian.

The two body guards that were standing beside Lucian tensed, ready to attack the man that had so boldly talked back to their boss.

A wave of displeasure settled in Lucian's chest at the inconclusive reply that he had received from his mate.

"Both of us know that it is my business." Lucian smirked and Jace glared at him defiantly, refusing to acknowledge the bond between them.

"No. IT IS NOT." Jace growled, getting more irritated with how uneventful his evening was turning out to be.

He was mated to his worst enemy and he was not getting any closer to killing him.

The instinctal part of him was also fighting to betray his mind that was hellbent on getting revenge.

Jace could feel his head spin as he glared at Lucian whose stormy grey eyes were filled with amusement as they watched him.

Jace immediately regretted not listening to his best friend as he contemplated hiring an assassin to get the job done.

He wanted Lucian Hayes dead and he was going to achieve his goal by any means necessary.

"Let's go." He eventually tore his eyes from Lucian and grabbed Axel's hand, tugging him towards the exit.

Lucian watched his mate's retreating back, his face unfathomable.

"Don't follow me." He told his bodyguards as he calmly walked away, relying on his nostrils to track down his mate.

"Jace, stop." He called out once he found the man that was hurriedly walking down a long corridor.

Jace was surprised when he turned around to find Lucian making his way to him, his stormy grey eyes unreable.

His heartbeat involuntarily picked up as the mafia lord neared, excited that Lucian was alone and unaccompanied by his body guards.

It was the perfect opportunity to attack.

"Axel, wait in the car. I will be there shortly." Jace told his friend and the beta scrutinized him.

"You are not planning on doing something crazy, are you?" Axel asked and Jace shrugged, offering him a small smile that betrayed his intentions.

"Ten minutes. If you are not at the car within ten minutes, then I am coming back." Axel's voice was stern and almost parent like.

"Alright, now hurry and go." Jace shooed his friend away and Axel reluctantly left.

Jace walked towards Lucian who was still far away until they met half way through the corridor, standing a meter from each other.

"You are my mate." Lucian spoke first, his voice certain and his stance proud and authoritative.

"And I yours but we are Alphas. This will never work out and besides, I...I hate you." Jace replied, his forest green eyes sharp and fierce as they met Lucian's calm grey ones.

"Any particular reason as to why you dislike me so strongly?" Lucian ignored the sting in his heart as he continued to gaze into his mate's eyes.

The past five years of his life briefly flashed before Jace's eyes as rage overwhelmed him.

Before he could think straight, Jace lunged forward, gripping Lucian's collars and pinning the slightly bigger alpha to the wall with a force that nearly put a dent through the marble.

"You are the reason my family fell apart." Jace accused and Lucian surprisingly remained calm, despite not liking the feeling of being trapped to a wall by another alpha.

"That is a big accusation. Are you sure you have the right alpha?" Lucian asked, completely clueless on what the man before him was talking about.

"Blackwell. Does that name ring a bell?" Jace hissed, his grip on Lucian tightening.

Lucian blinked, retrieving the name that he had long forgotten from his mind as his stormy grey eyes widened slightly.

Memories he wished he could forget came rushing in as he realized why Jace's face and scent had seemed familiar.

"I can see you remember what you did." Jace growled, his hands reaching for Lucian's neck.
