Etollie Academy. An institution of pure grandeur and excellence. With its high ceilings, decadent decor, and long-spanning history.
It was truly a sight to behold.
Only the best of the best in their fields and the ones who had the most money to their names could attend and somehow I was one of them.
I was a human unfortunately born in a vampire-dominated society. Ever since they suddenly became immune to sunlight they've ruled this world with an iron fist keeping humans at the bottom and vampires at the top.
Which meant less quality schools and even higher gaps to jump but I pushed through and for all my hard work I was one of fifty human students chosen to attend Etollie Academy.
Under their human relations initiative. Humans who showed much potential could attend a vampire-dominated school.
It seemed like a bad idea I mean a human in a vampire school. Who would be crazy enough to do something like that?
Newsflash I was.
It didn't help that I was getting a full ride and they had one of the best computer science programs in the country.
I mean come on I was only human what else was I supposed to do?
So on the day before orientation with my bags packed I said goodbye to my family.
"Make sure to call us when you get there. And try to make a buddy and never go out alone at night." My mother said frantically as she brushed down my hair.
I could only imagine the fear she had been feeling sending her daughter off to what some could call a lion's den.
"Of course Mom I won't forget," I said trying to calm some of her nerves. "And be careful what you say and what you do. The wrong move could land you in trouble." Said my father with a stern expression that could barely hide his fear and sadness.
I was their only child so this must've been truly hell to him.
"Of course Father I will," I said and Tears would begin to well up from the corner of her eyes.
I was terrified but I wasn't too worried. I had a friend inside already. A vampire girl whom I was not supposed to be friends with but just so happened to be.
She lived across town in the richer vampire side. We had first met in the forests when we were only in elementary school. She was crying because she was lost so I helped her find her way back home and we've been secretly friends ever since.
She was a year older than I and had gotten accepted into Etollie Academy last year so she was going to be my upperclassman.
Hearing the sound of a car honking I turned around to see a limo with the Etollie school crest on the side.
It was a golden and black shield with a rapier on top which most likely represented their fencing team. And the shield had four sections. In the first was a book, in the second was a fist, the third a crown, and forth a torch.
The driver would exit the limo. A tall lanky vampire who had his blonde hair slicked back and was eloquently dressed in a black and white tailcoat.
"Here for Ms Emilia Brown." Said the man and I'd raise my hand nervously "that's me."
He'd reach into his waistcoat and pull out of a pocket. "Well say your goodbyes to your family we don't have much time to waste if we want you to arrive at the academy before nightfall. I'll take your bags." He said and with super strength, he'd pick up my suitcases and balance them all on one arm and put them into the trunk of the limo.
"Guess this is goodbye." I'd turn to my parents and hug them tightly.
Oh god, why did I sign up for this I mean I could die.
"Be safe our little sunflower." My father whispered while petting my blonde hair.
The driver would clear his throat upset with the display of affection and muttered something under his breath along the lines of human scum.
I'd pull myself out of the hug and turn towards the limo. Each step I took felt like I had concrete bricks tied to my feet but soon I'd reach the door and open the vehicle.
I'd take one last look behind me a tears running down my cheek before going inside setting my backpack down onto the plush leather seats and I'd take one last look at my parents before the door was roughly closed in my face.
I hope this was all worth it in the end
