"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 339: Grim Reapers of the Underworld
Inside the pocket dimension, Tenra, Rias, and the girls gathered within the protective barrier, catching their breath after the chaos.
"I'm back."
Ophis's voice was as calm as ever. She materialized inside the barrier, her presence instantly felt by everyone.
"Ophis-chan, are you okay? Where did you go just now?" Asia and the others rushed to her side, concern etched on their faces. After the battle with the Hero Faction, Ophis had slipped away without explanation. Now that she'd returned, their worry spilled out in a flood.
"I went to recover my snakes." She opened her hands; several black serpents curled and slithered across her palms.
Her explanation was simple, almost clinical. When Samael had tried to steal her power, Ophis had split her strength into serpents and sent them fleeing. Only after Samael and Cao Cao left did she go to retrieve them.
Tenra raised an eyebrow, impressed despite himself. "So, how do you feel now? How much power did you get back?"
Ophis considered for a moment. "Very weak. Only about twice the full power of Ddraig and Albion combined."
The room went silent. Even partial recovery made her twice as strong as both Heavenly Dragons at their peak. Tenra, Rias, and the girls exchanged uneasy glances. Somewhere deep inside, Ddraig and Albion themselves bristled—a wounded pride that was almost comical.
Ophis continued, voice flat. "Some snakes escaped to other dimensions. But something is hunting me. This space is sealed with barriers designed to trap me. I can't leave yet to recover the rest."
Tenra nodded. Weak for a god, but still terrifying. At least they'd salvaged something from the disaster. He told Ophis to rest, then signaled Minami, their best scout, to keep watch for any threats.
It didn't take long.
"Tenra-sama, enemies incoming!" Minami's eyes snapped open, voice urgent.
Within moments, the air thickened with a chilling energy. A horde of black-robed, scythe-wielding Grim Reapers materialized, their numbers overwhelming—easily a thousand strong.
Reapers were no ordinary opponents. Their scythes could reap more than flesh; they harvested lifespans and souls. Even the weakest among them rivaled mid-class devils, and this army included dozens of mid and high-rank Reapers as well. Tenra and Rias's group tensed, knowing this was a fight they couldn't take lightly.
The Reapers fanned out, encircling the barrier. At their head stood three figures: Georg and Heracles from the Hero Faction, and a masked Reaper whose spiritual pressure made the air vibrate. His scythe shimmered with spectral light, the blade a bottomless black.
"First meeting, Miracle of House Phoenix—Tenra Kamiyo. And Demon King Lucifer's sister, Rias Gremory. I am Pluto, Grim Reaper in service to Lord Hades."
His voice was raspy, almost inhuman.
Rias's eyes went wide. "Pluto—the legendary Ultimate-class Reaper!"
Even those unfamiliar with the name could feel the threat radiating from him. An Ultimate-class Reaper was a match for the Demon Kings themselves.
Rias regained her composure, icy and direct. "Pluto, the Reapers of the Underworld are supposed to be our allies. Why are you siding with the Khaos Brigade against us?"
Pluto's mask twisted in a mockery of a smile. "Princess Rias, I believe you're mistaken. The ones betraying the alliance are not us—it's you."
He pointed at Ophis, who was calmly munching snacks beside Le Fay. "You've colluded with the terrorist Khaos Brigade, trying to undermine our unity. Ophis by your side is all the proof I need."
Tenra could practically feel the sneer behind the clown mask.
Rias bristled. "You accuse us of colluding with Khaos Brigade, but what about those two beside you?!"
She jabbed a finger at Georg and Heracles. The hypocrisy was infuriating.
Pluto shrugged. "I don't know them."
Heracles grinned, all brute cunning. "We don't know these Reaper lords, either. Just happened to bump into each other."
The lies were so blatant it was almost laughable.
Tenra stepped up, placing a hand on Rias's shoulder. "Enough talk. These Reapers and the Hero Faction are working together to capture Ophis. We can't let them get away with it."
Rias drew a deep breath, forcing herself to steady. "Right. Let's settle this."
Tenra laid out the plan. "I'll take the Mist Sorcerer. Rias, you handle Pluto. The rest of you—Heracles and the remaining Reapers."
Rias frowned. "There are too many. Akeno and the others might be in danger."
Tenra understood her hesitation—throwing Akeno and the others against such overwhelming odds was risky. He turned to Ophis, hope flickering. "Ophis, can you help?"
Ophis's reply was blunt as ever. "Yes. But I can't control my power freely. I might hurt you."
Tenra sighed. "Never mind, then."
Samael's lingering curse, no doubt. If Ophis couldn't control her power, she was as much a threat to her allies as her enemies.
Thinking quickly, Tenra raised his hand, summoning Jeanne's squad, Seraselbes's group, and his familiar, Queen Undine.
"Jeanne, Seraselbes, Undine—lend us a hand."
"Yes, Tenra-sama!"
"As you command, wicked master."
Undine nodded with regal calm, Seraselbes and her group replied respectfully. Jeanne's eyes, however, flickered with predatory interest as she spotted Georg and Heracles—there was history there.
Rias and Akeno traded glances, a touch of jealousy in their eyes. They knew Tenra kept other women in his Sancta Diabolus Ecclesia, but seeing them in person was something else.
Tenra felt the awkwardness but brushed it aside. Now wasn't the time for explanations or drama. Even with reinforcements, the enemy's numbers dwarfed their own. Tenra activated Chimera Maker, summoning hundreds of magical beasts—hulking, snarling, ready for war.
Now, at least, they wouldn't be outnumbered.
He swept his gaze over the group. "All right—"
"Let's begin. Everyone, move!"
