"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 340: Avalon in the Mist

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Inside the pocket dimension, the battlefield was pure chaos. Asia remained within the barrier, working support magic, while Ophis waited in reserve. Tenra, Rias, the girls, and a legion of summoned magical beasts clashed headlong against the Grim Reaper army.

These Reapers weren't mere cannon fodder. Even the weakest among them matched mid-class devils; many were on par with high-class, and a handful radiated the overwhelming aura of ultimate-class monsters. Their scythes glimmered with death's promise, able to reap both lifespans and souls. Rias and her team fought with unyielding caution, every move calculated—one wrong step could mean instant annihilation.

On the battlefield's edge, Jeanne and a squad of former Hero Faction girls had Heracles surrounded.

"So, Jeanne—you've betrayed Khaos Brigade and thrown in with Tenra Kamiyo, huh?" Heracles called out, voice edged with accusation.

Jeanne scoffed, drawing the Holy-Demonic Sword Tenra had gifted her. She twirled the blade, eyes cold. "Whose fault do you think that is? You left us to rot. Never even tried to save us."

The memory of her master's wicked games—while these bastards lived in comfort—burned in her chest. Bitterness sharpened her words.

"Rescuing anyone from Tenra's grip is no easy feat. Besides, we had our own problems. You know that better than anyone," Heracles replied, sounding almost apologetic.

"Save the excuses. You didn't bother. You just wrote us off." Jeanne's voice dripped with contempt. You think I don't know what kind of people you are? I was one of you.

Heracles sighed, defeated. "What's done is done. If you come back now, you're still our comrades."

"Not happening. We're his tools now—his slaves. There's no going back."

Jeanne's blade flashed. "Enough talk. Die, Heracles!"

She and her squad surged forward, swords raised, battle cries cutting through the din.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Rias danced among a hail of black blades, her crimson battle armor gleaming as she dodged and weaved. A trio of Reapers closed in, scythes poised.

"HAH!" With a fierce shout, Rias shot upward, twin crimson magic circles blooming in her hands. Energy erupted, vaporizing two Reapers in midair.

"Little princess, that Pluto is dangerous. Don't let his scythe touch you." Ddraig's voice echoed from the jewel embedded in her armor—a tactical transfer Tenra had arranged at the battle's start.

"I know," Rias replied, eyes narrowed. She'd already clashed with Pluto several times—the threat was palpable. He was leagues above Kokabiel.

"Use your partner's technique," Ddraig urged. "Scatter him with my clones, then strike when he's distracted."

"Got it!"

Rias summoned a swarm of palm-sized mini-Ddraigs. They burst from her armor, wings buzzing as they darted through the air, unleashing energy blasts at the enemy below. Pluto fended off the barrage, his focus split—exactly as planned.

Seizing the moment, Rias gathered a massive sphere of crimson energy between her palms, dove from the sky, and hurled it straight at Pluto.

"Take this, you damned Reaper!"

Tenra saw nothing but mist. The sounds of battle faded, and the world became a fog-shrouded expanse—no sign of Rias, no sign of the Reapers. Just endless, swirling gray.

"Red Dragon Emperor, you chose me as your opponent. Planning to steal my Sacred Gear, too?" Georg's voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere, his form hidden by the haze.

"That's right. Your Dimension Lost is a fine Sacred Gear. I intend to claim it—just like I did with your comrades'."

Tenra's lips curled in a predatory smile, eyes scanning the mist for any sign of movement.

Georg's laughter drifted through the fog. "Not shy, are you? If you think you can, come and try!"

"This space is my Balance Breaker—Avalon in the Mist. A Reality Marble of my own making. Beat me and take my Sacred Gear, or be trapped here forever."

Suddenly, Georg materialized, launching a volley of blazing fireballs. Tenra sidestepped, blade flashing as he slashed at Georg's form—only for it to dissolve into mist.

"Pointless. In here, I'm invincible. I can attack at will, but your blows mean nothing."

His voice echoed, mocking and elusive.

Tenra's eyes gleamed, hunger growing. "The more I see, the more I want it."

"Oh, Cao Cao, you really do get things done! I've received Ophis's power already." The voice was manic, almost gleeful.

"And the other item I wanted—did you bring it?"

As Cao Cao and his group emerged from the teleportation circle, a figure bounded up to greet them. High-collared cape, wild silver hair—a grinning, clearly deranged middle-aged man.

But this madman was more than he seemed. Every Hero Faction member, save Cao Cao, eyed him with undisguised dread.

Rizevim Livan Lucifer—the infamous son of the original Demon King Lucifer and Lilith, Mother of Devils.

He wore a mask of frivolity, but his cruelty was legendary. No one knew when he'd joined Khaos Brigade, but his recent rampages—laughing as he slaughtered hundreds of his own allies—were the stuff of nightmares.

A true monster.

"That's him. Grabbed him on the way back." Cao Cao tossed an unconscious figure to the floor.

Issei Hyoudou.

Rizevim's eyes gleamed with delight. He crouched, running his hands over Issei as if handling a priceless artifact. The sight was grotesque—enough to make anyone's skin crawl.

"What do you want with him, Rizevim? He has a unique power, sure, but nothing world-shaking."

Rizevim waved him off. "No, no, Cao Cao. You're still too young."

"This boy's ability isn't magic, or any supernatural art. It's a blessing from an unknown god of another world."

"Another world, you see? If we study him, we might discover that world's existence, maybe even open a path to it. Just imagine the possibilities!" His excitement was infectious—if deeply unsettling.

"Isn't it thrilling? Isn't it?!"

He seized Cao Cao's shoulders, face wild with glee, spittle flying.

Cao Cao shrugged him off. "I don't care about other worlds. Do what you want. Just remember to create the new Ophis—you're better at that than any of us."

He turned to leave.

"Cao Cao, not staying to help?"

"The Underworld operation is about to start. I need to be there."

"Ah, go ahead, go ahead. This world's been quiet too long—it's time for some chaos."

Rizevim cackled, dragging Issei off to his laboratory.

Poor Issei. Still unconscious, he had no idea what kind of hellish fate awaited him as Rizevim's newest experiment.
