"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 338: The End of a God
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Inside the warped dimension, chaos reigned. Tenra, Irina, and the girls were locked in fierce combat with Cao Cao and the Hero Faction. Magic and steel clashed, the air thick with the scent of ozone and burning flesh.
"Burn! Phoenix flames—ignite!"
Ravel's voice rang out, clear and commanding. Firebirds erupted from her, diving straight into the ranks of their enemies.
"AAAHHH!"
Screams split the air. Hero Faction operatives flailed, desperate to smother the flames, but the Phoenix fire was merciless. Their struggles only ended in agony—ashes swirling in the aftermath.
Kunou's youki surged. She conjured a basketball-sized energy orb and hurled it, blasting an attacker into oblivion. She landed beside Ravel, breathless but exhilarated.
"Ravel-chan, you're incredible!"
She'd only taken down one enemy, but Ravel had already wiped out several. Kunou's admiration was genuine.
Ravel lifted her chin, eyes sparkling with pride. "Of course. I am House Phoenix's prodigy, after all."
It wasn't mere boasting—Ravel truly was a genius, even outshining her brother Riser. She just hated fighting, so her talents rarely saw the light.
"Let's hurry and finish these guys. Ophis-chan needs us!"
Ravel rolled her eyes, but smiled. "Fine. She's our mascot, so I'll put in a bit more effort."
All around, Xenovia, Irina, Xuelan, and the others fought tooth and nail against their own opponents.
Up above, two streaks of light collided in midair—Tenra and Cao Cao, locked in a deadly dance.
"Out of my way!" Tenra barked, eyes darting toward Ophis. He had no patience for Cao Cao's games, but the bastard clung to him like a curse.
Cao Cao just laughed, relishing every second. "Not a chance. Polar Night Longinus Chakravartin!"
He thrust his spear, power radiating like a shockwave. Tenra summoned the Yata Mirror, bracing for impact. The mirror shattered instantly, holy spear punching through as if it were glass.
But Tenra was already gone—a flash-step to the side, refusing to be caught by the same trick twice. Beneath his armor, his jaw clenched. If he didn't finish Cao Cao, he'd never reach Ophis in time.
Enough.
Tenra's wings snapped open. He soared higher, gathering a crimson sphere of energy in his palm, then hurled it at Cao Cao with all his might.
"Let's go!"
Cao Cao met the attack head-on, spear tip colliding with the energy sphere. No explosion—just raw force. The sphere drove Cao Cao and his spear downward, then, in a flash, vanished into the shadows.
Tenra allowed himself a brief, satisfied grin. He'd activated Night Reflection, forcing Cao Cao into the shadow realm. It wouldn't hold him forever, but even a moment's delay was enough.
No time to waste. Tenra streaked toward Ophis's prison, cutting down any Hero Faction members in his path. Blood and screams followed in his wake.
"HAH!"
He landed beside Samael, iron fist slamming into the monster's flesh. This was the thing that had trapped Ophis—attack the source, break the spell.
Samael howled, a sound of agony and rage. Black, poisonous blood splattered everywhere, some of it sizzling on Tenra's armor. He recoiled, dismissing his armor before the venom could eat through.
He hadn't destroyed Samael, but he'd made a dent. The flesh cocoon split, and Ophis's form appeared, pale but whole.
"Ophis!"
She looked unharmed, but Tenra's heart sank. Energy was pouring from her body—Samael was leeching her power.
He was about to act when a flash of light signaled Cao Cao's return, spear in hand.
"Tch." Tenra cursed. The shadow realm had only held him for seconds—about as much as he'd hoped for.
"You caught me off guard. That was another Sacred Gear you stole from my comrades, wasn't it?" Cao Cao blocked Tenra's path, eyes cold and calculating.
Tenra smirked. "Who's counting? You people have been generous with your donations."
Mist coalesced nearby as Georg appeared. "Cao Cao, Samael's been injured."
Cao Cao frowned. "Our precious tool got hurt? Hades is going to throw a fit."
He waved the concern away. "Doesn't matter. How much of Ophis's power did we siphon?"
"About three-quarters. But Samael's link to this world won't last much longer."
"That's plenty. Send it back."
Cao Cao snapped his fingers. The cocoon dissolved, tentacles retracting into Samael's mouth.
The magic circle dimmed as Samael sank back into its depths, its rage and frustration palpable, but ultimately powerless—a tool discarded once its purpose was served.
Tenra flashed to Ophis's side, voice low and grim. "This was your real plan all along. Steal Ophis's power, then create your own puppet god."
The fighting slowed. Hero Faction members regrouped behind Cao Cao, while Rias, Akeno, and Yubelluna—freed from their light prisons—joined Tenra and the others.
Cao Cao smiled, unashamed. "You figured it out. That was our goal. Even Samael couldn't erase Ophis completely, but draining most of her power is enough. She's no longer 'Infinite,' is she? Ending a myth with my own hands—feels pretty damn good."
He continued, voice dripping with satisfaction. "Per our deal with Hades: we take Ophis's power, he gets her empty shell. The Grim Reapers should be arriving any minute."
He turned to Georg. "Teleport us back to HQ. You and Heracles stay here to manage the barrier and coordinate with the Reapers."
"Understood."
Cao Cao's gaze swept the battered group. "Tenra Kamiyo, let the Grim Reapers entertain you for a while longer."
He laughed—a sound cold and triumphant.
Rias and the girls weren't about to let him escape.
"Stop, Cao Cao!"
Magic flared—Rias, Akeno, and Yubelluna unleashed a barrage, Xenovia and Irina slashed out with blades of light. The entire space shook, thunderous with explosions, but Cao Cao and his allies vanished into mist, leaving only chaos behind.
