Chapter 49 - Deal

"This thing isn't that hard to deal with, is it?" Corax also squatted on the steel beam, an invisible shadow barrier separating him and Swain into an independent space where they could talk freely without using sign language.

"It's really not that hard for us to deal with this thing, but for others, it's a problem. One burst from a cluster laser gun, and it's a bloody mess," Swain said.

"I'll go take care of those Sentinel Mech pilots," Corax said no more; he evidently knew that his abnormal level was something ordinary people couldn't possibly catch up to. Anyway, the able should do more.

"Wait, let me try." Swain pulled the Primarch back just as he was about to dart out and finish off the Sentinel Mech pilots.

"Ah, how do you plan to deal with them?" Corax asked, somewhat puzzled. In his opinion, the most convenient way was naturally to kill the pilots of these mechs.

"Don't you think it's a very cost-effective thing to use these Sentinel Mechs against themselves? It's much more efficient than us killing them one by one," Swain said to Corax. Although the two of them were very strong, they still had to kill them one by one. There were so many people in the Tower, and they weren't pigs that couldn't run. Even 50,000 pigs would take a long time to catch. But now it was good; as long as these bipedal mechs fired a burst from a cluster laser gun, or a single laser cannon shot, no matter how many pigs there were, they would die.

The bulletproof vests on the regular army on Kiavahr could not withstand attacks from weapons of this caliber.

"Machine Spirit, punish those sinners who desecrate the glory of the Omnissiah!" Swain stepped out from the shadow barrier, raising his hands and chanting a prayer he had randomly made up. Three black rays of light flew directly from Swain's hands towards the mechs that were gradually moving away.

The calm Machine Spirit within the Sentinel Mechs, which had been quietly patrolling, suddenly became enraged. The machine body began to shake uncontrollably, trying to throw off the pilot inside.

"Damn it, did the Tech-Priest not perform the prayer ritual to appease the Machine Spirit?" The pilot, equipped with a Sentinel Chainsword, frantically tried to shut down the entire mech's operating system, cursing.

The Machine Spirit is a unique product in the Imperium of Man, which can be understood as a form of existence of the mechanical essence. The existence of the Machine Spirit is the operating system of the weapon, and it is an operating system with a certain degree of self-awareness. Not only large ships and main battle tanks, but even loyal Boltguns have their own Machine Spirit.

When the Machine Spirit is pleased, ammunition is supplied infinitely.

When the Machine Spirit is displeased, jamming and breaking down are common occurrences.

"Ah…" The Machine Spirit, unable to shake them off, directly started to act. In a flash of lightning, the three pilots who were patrolling in the Sentinel Mechs suddenly let out incredibly tragic screams. Corax even vaguely saw the shape of human bones in the dazzling white light. Corax even felt the increasingly volatile emotions of the Machine Spirit, as if every second these pilots spent inside the machine was a desecration of itself.

"Kill all those sinners who have desecrated the glory of the Omnissiah!" Swain, with a single leap, directly threw the bodies of several pilots out of the cockpit and affectionately stroked the body of the Sentinel Mech.

"Hmm, ah…"

With a look as if he had seen a ghost, Corax even vaguely heard the Machine Spirit groaning from Swain's caress.

"Swain, you're too outrageous. How come I didn't know you had this ability before?" Corax asked, looking at the Sentinel Mechs that were gleefully charging forward and killing.

"Which equipment in our camp has a Machine Spirit?" Swain retorted. In the 30k era, Machine Spirits had not yet reached the obsessive level of the later 40k, where even Boltguns needed incense. Only some warships and vehicles had Machine Spirits.

Strictly speaking, Machine Spirits should not have full autonomous capabilities, but there are documented records indicating that Machine Spirits of a certain age are actually fully capable of doing so. The most famous case is the ancient Castellan Annihilator robots, which operated independently before reaching the battlefield, allowed Tech-Priests to control them once on the battlefield, but would sever this control once the battle ended.

Machine Spirits themselves also become increasingly powerful over time. The most famous Machine Spirit in Warhammer is the Machine Spirit of the Gloriana-class battleship, Macragge's Honor, belonging to Roboute Guilliman. After Guilliman awoke and was on his way to Terra, Huron of the Red Corsairs captured this glorious battleship. When he wanted to corrupt this battleship, the Dark Mechanicum replied that it would take tens of thousands of years to corrupt the Machine Spirit, so Huron decisively "returned" it to Guilliman.

"Alright, I was indeed overthinking." Corax thought about the miners' miserable living conditions; they didn't even have decent machinery, let alone the birth of a Machine Spirit. Machine Spirits require daily maintenance from the Mechanicum: incense, holy oils, prayers—a whole set of procedures, and even then, it's not guaranteed to appease the Machine Spirit. Sometimes, if not appeased, the Machine Spirit simply won't go to battle with you. For example, with the God-Machines, the Titans, without the rule of the Machine Spirit, the pilots cannot even board the Titan.

The Machine Spirit also has its pros and cons.

"Let's go, the breach has been opened. You need to go up and meet the Tower Lord." Swain told Corax, then went in another direction. The Tower Lord was naturally left for Corax to deal with; Swain had more important things to do, which had been discussed beforehand.

Swain's target was the Grav-Well. After the ores on Lycaeus are mined, they are transported to the area where the Grav-Well is located and directly accelerated through the Grav-Well by spaceships to the smelting factories on Kiavahr. The smelting factories will smelt standard metal blocks of various material ratios according to the needs of various foundries, continuously supplying them to other factories for production.

There is a major loophole on Kiavahr: the transport ships for the ores from Lycaeus have very high authorization. The identification codes inside these transport ships allow them to travel between Lycaeus and Kiavahr at super-high speeds without being intercepted by the anti-aircraft system. This loophole isn't really that big, because Lycaeus has always been under Kiavahr's control. A mere group of miner slaves couldn't possibly rebel.

In fact, the news of the rebellion on Lycaeus hasn't even reached Kiavahr yet; the Tower Lord has controlled all information.

"Nekser, take your men to bring the mining nukes from the armory to the Grav-Well." Swain gave Nekser new orders via the communicator. A breach had appeared in the middle defense node area, allowing Shadow Assassin to be freed up for other tasks. They didn't need to paralyze all defense positions.
