Chapter 249 - Clark—I Will Become Superman in the Future!

Batman?Green Arrow?

Clark raised an eyebrow.

Batman—the Dark Knight of Gotham, a legend capable of taking on the city's most notorious criminals single-handedly. Even if he hadn't been to Gotham, Clark had heard of Batman's renown.

He even respected Batman more than most, because Batman had done what Clark had always wanted to do.

Though Jonathan had sacrificed his life to protect Clark's secret, leaving Clark with a lingering grief, it didn't suppress his true nature. Over the years, Clark couldn't resist helping those in need, though he had learned to act with much more caution.

This was why Clark frequently changed jobs and identities—to ensure no one discovered his true self.

Unfortunately… as his future would reveal, it was only a matter of time before his actions exposed him. Even with multiple identities and jobs, Lois Lane would eventually find him. But that was all in the future; for now, none of it had occurred.

Clark, holding the diary, had no way of knowing what the future held. At present, he was simply captivated by its contents.

His attention shifted to the name Green Arrow.

Oliver Queen had only recently returned to Queen Industries, so Clark had never heard of Green Arrow. Yet it was clear this person was a hero of sorts, akin to Batman—a vigilante fighting crime, likely using a "green arrow" as a weapon.

Then there were mentions of Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Superman—undoubtedly other "superheroes."

Superheroes!

Yes, that term fit perfectly. "Vigilante" felt too narrow, too mundane. Helping the weak, fighting crime—these were heroic acts. Adding "super" emphasized that these individuals possessed abilities far beyond ordinary humans.

Of them, Clark could not yet deduce much about Wonder Woman or Superman. As for The Flash, could he generate lightning, or was he merely fast as lightning? Both seemed possible.

And… Superman? Another farm boy?

What a coincidence—just like Clark himself!

Unbeknownst to him, the farm boy mentioned in the diary—Superman—was in fact himself.

Other questions arose: What did DC stand for? The diary's author, Zhou Cheng, seemed to designate this world as DC. Was it a region, like Marvel? Judging by the diary, Gotham and Metropolis, and where heroes like Green Arrow, The Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman were active, were considered DC. Marvel likely existed elsewhere, though specifics weren't mentioned.

Clark realized this world contained many superheroes beyond Batman. The thought stirred something within him—perhaps he could also don a uniform and secretly help those in need.

But he hesitated—his father would never allow it.

(At this stage, Clark isn't yet the Superman of legend. General Zod has not arrived, and he hasn't yet become the Kryptonian hero recognized worldwide.)

He paused over phrases like "current Superman" and "not yet exposed," realizing the diary seemed to speak from a future perspective. This diary, from a new dimension, didn't include Marvel content. The author couldn't know Clark's true identity and must have inferred it from context.

Clark pondered: The diary claimed he would become Superman in the future? Preposterous. How could anyone predict the future?

Could it be a prank? He dismissed the thought immediately. Who would play such a prank with a magical diary?

Clark decided to continue reading, curiosity overcoming skepticism.

Then he read: General Zod?

Clark's expression darkened—who was this figure? The diary mentioned Zod would "arrive" and battle him. A natural conclusion formed: Zod came from Clark's home planet!

This was the first time Clark learned about his origins on Earth. Even if the information's accuracy remained uncertain, it thrilled him.

He read further: Kryptonian, Man of Earth.

"Man of Earth" could be set aside for now; it was just an honorific. But Kryptonian? His home planet was Krypton? His father was Jor-El?

Clark was stunned. The diary's author knew his true identity. For the first time in his life, he finally understood who he really was.

A wave of emotion—excitement and relief—washed over him, tempered quickly by rational thought.

The diary provided answers, but Clark could not blindly trust them; he needed to verify. Fortunately, verification wasn't difficult. The diary mentioned his father leaving a scout ship in the Arctic.

Clark didn't yet know how to fly, but his speed rivaled that of the Flash. With his X-ray vision, locating the Arctic scout ship would be feasible.

Excitement surged. This was a solid lead.

Still, there was no need to rush. Clark calmed himself, refocusing on the diary.

A touch of melancholy crossed his face. Growing up as an "extraordinary being," he'd always felt like an outcast, burdening his parents.

Even his adoptive father, Jonathan, had been wary of Clark exposing himself. At critical moments, Jonathan had forbade Clark from using his powers—even to save him.

Clark had witnessed Jonathan die in a storm, unable to intervene—a source of lifelong guilt.

Yet how could the diary author know this? In Smallville, few knew of Jonathan's death, and the details were certainly not public. Only Martha, his mother, had witnessed it.

The diary suggested the author possessed knowledge of the future—or extraordinary insight. In a world of superpowers, Clark found this plausible.

Clark shook off skepticism, diving deeper into the diary.

He paused again—simply hiding his identity required only a pair of glasses? Ridiculous! Yet the diary's tone suggested it was no joke. Could it truly be that simple?

Could a mere pair of glasses conceal the Kryptonian from the entire world? Clark still couldn't believe it.

The diary reminded him that his identity would eventually be globally known after facing Zod. But for now… glasses sufficed.

Clark reflected: flight?

Could he really fly in the future? His eyes lit up. Even for someone as powerful as him, flight was an exciting prospect. He sensed that, with control over his gravity-altering abilities—what he would later know as a bio-field—he could indeed fly.
