A harsh, piercing screech of friction rang out, sparks bursting everywhere. But the adamantium claws that could slice tank armor only carved several deep white gouges into the stone giant's rocky surface—no real damage at all! And even those gouges were slowly repairing themselves.
"Tch! This thing's harder than adamantium!" Wolverine was forced back a few steps by the recoil. He spat to the side, eyes turning even fiercer, but for the moment he couldn't find a good way to take it down.
Saitama jumped straight off the jet and landed beside Wolverine. He studied the stone giant and noticed it was different from the earlier monsters—its structure looked tighter, and its energy fluctuations were more contained. Soon, his gaze locked onto something in the center-left of its chest: a crystal about the size of a washbasin, embedded in the rock, glowing with a gentle but steady green light. That green glow seemed closely tied to the energy flowing through its entire body.
"That's the power source?" Saitama guessed.
He didn't hesitate. He shot forward.
The stone giant immediately sensed the new threat and swung the massive redwood tree in its hands like a club, whistling with terrifying force as it smashed down toward Saitama's waist.
Saitama only dipped his head slightly. The enormous tree swept over him, the wind from it tugging at his cape. He didn't slow down at all—closing the distance in an instant. He sprang upward, cocked his fist, and drove it straight at the glowing green crystal!
Thud!
The hit landed with a dull impact. But this time, the crystal didn't shatter. It didn't even crack. The green light only flickered violently for a moment.
The stone giant seemed completely enraged. It let out an ear-splitting roar—this time a real sonic roar. It threw away the tree, bent down, and grabbed a boulder the size of a small car, hurling it with all its strength at Saitama just as he touched down!
Saitama didn't dodge. He watched the boulder scream toward him, then lightly raised his right hand and caught it. The impact force that could flatten a tank vanished into nothing the instant it met his palm. He weighed the boulder once, then casually tossed it backhanded.
The boulder rocketed back even faster, smashing squarely into the stone giant's "face" made of rock. The hit staggered it, stone exploding everywhere. It reflexively lifted a huge stone hand to cover the impact spot.
"Now's our chance!" Wolverine shouted.
In the brief moment its vision was blocked and its movement stiffened, Saitama leapt again—this time even higher, reaching the level of the stone giant's chest.
He drew both fists back at the same time, then fired them forward together like twin heavy cannons, slamming them into the green crystal at full force!
Crack——!!!!
This time, the sharp fracture sounded unbelievably clear. The green crystal couldn't withstand the doubled terrifying power and instantly exploded into countless shards. Green energy sprayed out like a punctured tank, then quickly dissipated into the air.
All the stone giant's movements stopped at once. Its raised arms froze midair, and the green glow in its eyes went out. The energy keeping it active vanished completely. Its massive body paused for a second—then it collapsed with a thunderous crash, breaking apart with a clatter and fully disintegrating into a pile of ordinary rubble and splintered trees scattered across the ruined forest.
When Saitama and Wolverine returned to New York from the West Coast, the Quinjet had only just entered the city's airspace when a new alarm blared again.
This time, the threat came from the sky.
Above the center of New York City, a huge vortex made of countless metal fragments was forming.
