The sources of the metal fragments were messy and varied—rebar left behind by earlier building-monsters, car parts, and even certain special metallic grains that remained from the lunar rock monster. Drawn in by some lingering force, they were being pulled from every corner of the city, gathering here in a massive convergence.
The vortex spun violently, releasing a piercing, razor-sharp howl. From time to time, metal shards with knife-like edges broke away from the outer ring and rained down, slamming into skyscraper walls and windows. Terrified civilians on the streets screamed and scattered for cover, cars were carved up, and the entire scene descended into chaos.
"It's the lunar rock monster's leftover metal! Some residual power is guiding it here!" Tony Stark hovered in midair, constantly using repulsor blasts and micro-missiles to intercept the larger fragments that could cause serious damage. At the same time, he deployed an energy shield to protect the civilians below. "We have to stop this vortex—it's still absorbing more metal and getting bigger!"
Before the words were even finished, the metal vortex seemed to gain awareness. It suddenly contracted inward, compressing and condensing! Countless fragments snapped together and fused, and in the end they formed an enormous, grotesque monster shaped like a giant bird—its entire body made of sharp metal.
It let out a shrieking metallic scream. With a single flap of its wings, countless shards shot outward like feather-arrows. Then the main body dove straight down toward Tony's position, its talons flashing with cold light.
Saitama stood on the rooftop of a nearby skyscraper, the gale whipping his cape so it snapped loudly behind him. Watching the metal bird monster dive, he lifted his right hand without expression and casually threw a punch at its head.
Boom!!
A dull, thunderous impact exploded through the air. The metal bird's head—along with nearly half its body—was punched clean through, leaving a massive hole. The countless shards that formed its body instantly lost cohesion, clattering and scattering apart.
But those scattered fragments didn't fall to the ground.
In the middle of their descent, they were tugged again by an invisible green energy field, trying to fly back toward the vortex—trying to reassemble and reform.
"It has to be shattered all at once—completely destroy the structure!" Tony shouted, firing energy beams at the shards attempting to regroup. But there were too many pieces, moving too fast. The effect was limited.
Metal Storm!
"Got it," Saitama replied.
The instant the metal fragments began to condense for a second time, he kicked off the rooftop and leapt upward, charging straight into the churning mass as it was reforming. His figure disappeared into the storm of spinning, razor-edged shards.
In the next moment his fists erupted.
Not one punch.
Countless punches.
His hands moved at a speed no eye could track, creating an absolute domain of destruction. Each strike precisely hit one shard—or several—driving overwhelming force into the tiniest structural points of the metal.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
A dense chain of crisp, rapid shattering sounds merged into a single roar, echoing across the sky.
Rebar, car armor plating, specialty alloy shards…
In front of his fists, they were as fragile as crackers—without exception pulverized midair into the finest metallic dust, into powdery grit. Not even a slightly larger fragment was left behind.
The green energy field tried to tug again—but now all it could draw in was a sky full of useless metal dust drifting on the wind.
