Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Saving Captain America?

"My whole body?"

Saitama gave Child Emperor a puzzled look. "On the way here, you only said to try it out. Now you want me to go all in?"

"One million yen! I'll add more money!"

Ahem. "You know, I'm not really doing this for the money."

Saitama's face didn't even twitch—no way a salted fish like him would love money. Never in his life. He was a proud salted fish.

Only after Child Emperor raised the payment by another 700,000 yen, and after counting it once with a bill counter under the scornful gazes of Tatsumaki and Blizzard, did Saitama finally smile with satisfaction.

"Pleasure doing business. You can hold onto it for me."

He glanced at the perfectly round black hole, thought for a moment, placed the money in Blizzard's hands, and then began stretching nearby.

"I'll take a look inside. If there's nothing, I'll come back."

After greeting the three of them, Saitama dove straight into the black hole.

The world instantly went dark. Sound and light vanished. His five senses felt sealed away. Slowly, a faint light appeared in his vision.

[Ding! Dimensional Portal System binding… binding complete. Sole Host: Saitama]

[You have traveled to the Marvel world, current setting: Captain America 1]

[Mission issued: Save Captain America. Reward: one random prize. Failure: no penalty.]

"What's that voice? Save Captain America? Who's that supposed to be?"

When he opened his eyes, Saitama found himself on a small island.

Yes, an island—surrounded by endless ocean. For a directionally challenged Saitama, this was definitely a huge problem.

High above, 10,000 meters in the air—

The Red Skull, having accidentally triggered the Space Stone, was obliterated into dust and transported to another time and space. The heat from the gem melted part of the transport's deck, sending the massive aircraft into a tailspin toward the ocean.

Captain Steve Rogers watched in shock. Schmidt should be dead, but he had no time to worry about the gem. The massive black-winged transport's engines were destroyed, navigation ruined, and its current flight path… straight toward New York.

"This is Captain Rogers, do you read me?"

In the ground control center, after nearly twenty minutes of silence, the comm channel finally came alive.

"Steve! Is that you?"

Agent Peggy Carter rushed forward, snatching the communicator from a staff member. "Tell me your coordinates, I'll find you a safe landing zone!"

"Schmidt's dead, but I don't have time to think about safety. I'm going to try for a crash landing!"

"Wait, I'll get Howard to advise—he'll know what to do!"

"No time. This plane's too fast—it's heading straight for New York. I'll take it into the ocean!"

"Please, don't. We still have time, we can think of another way."

"I'm over an uninhabited area. If I don't act now, more people will die!"

The panoramic windows were shattered, violent wind buffeting his face, but he had no more time to choose. The massive craft was nearing the coastline.

"Peggy… this is my choice."

"Looks like we'll have to postpone that dance."

"At the Stork Club, next Saturday, eight o'clock sharp. Don't be late, understood?"

Her eyes brimmed with tears as the radar clearly showed the transport plunging toward the sea.

"I don't even know how to dance… What the—?!"

Steve's determined expression twisted into shock. Through the open view, he spotted a tiny island below—more precisely, the dazzlingly reflective bald head of a man in a yellow jumpsuit standing beneath a lone coconut tree.

On the island, Saitama shaded his eyes against the sun, watching the small black dot in the sky grow larger. As his gaze focused, a notification appeared on his retina:

"Oh, so that's Captain America, huh? These stats kinda look like the Hero Association's test results. By the way, system, what are my stats?"

Saitama muttered, already starting to get used to having this system around.
