"Ma'am! Radar shows the Blackwing's fall has slowed drastically—it's like it's been stopped?!"
A soldier shouted in shock.
"Lock its coordinates, I'll send a team immediately!"
Peggy was stunned. She didn't know what had happened, but the fact that Steve was still alive filled her with joy.
"It's falling again!!"
…
"So, you're Captain America, Steve?"
Saitama looked at him with his usual bored, salted-fish expression, giving the tight suit a few glances before deciding it wasn't as cool as his own.
Saitama couldn't fly—just now, his upward burst had countered the craft's downward momentum, giving them a moment of suspension. Now, still holding the Blackwing and Steve, they were falling again.
"Who… who are you? I've never seen you before. Do you also serve your country?" Steve had too many questions to ask.
"Oh, I'm Saitama, a professional hero for fun. I work for the Hero Association." He scratched his cheek with his free hand. "My current mission is to save you. You seem to have pretty good physical strength."
The look in Saitama's eyes made Steve uneasy. Facing someone who could hold up the Blackwing like it was nothing, even the enhanced Captain America couldn't help feeling a twinge of dread.
"Save me? We don't even—wait, what are you doing?"
Before Steve could finish, Saitama ripped open the alloy hull of the craft and shot past him like a cannonball, his arm snaking out to pin Steve under his arm like a football.
With a thunderous boom, Saitama burst out of the Blackwing, landing on its armor. The roaring wind couldn't even ruffle him—his feet clung to the surface as if rooted there.
"That's your city, right?"
Saitama glanced down, easily spotting a distant skyline with towering skyscrapers—and the Statue of Liberty holding her torch high.
"What are you planning, Saitama?!"
Steve felt a sudden spike of anxiety as he realized he was being held like a baby chick.
"You probably won't die."
Muttering to himself, ignoring Steve's protests, Saitama leaned back slightly—then hurled him forward with a mighty swing.
Whoosh—
Captain America screamed as he was launched like a missile toward the Statue of Liberty.
His speed broke Mach 3!
If Saitama hadn't considered Steve's durability, he could have thrown him even faster and straighter.
In the blink of an eye, Steve was nothing but a dot in the distance.
"Done!"
Saitama smiled in satisfaction. "Oh, right—this thing too."
Looking down at the Blackwing under his feet, he realized that if it crashed on its current course, it would still hit near New York, killing countless civilians.
"Guess I'll sink it here. Below is just ocean."
He eyed the endless expanse of sea beneath them.
Bending his knees slightly, he suddenly squatted and leapt with full force.
Boom—
The overwhelming power shattered the reinforced armor of the Blackwing's back, as if it had been clubbed from above. It exploded in midair, dropping straight down in a fiery plunge.
Rumble—
The wreckage slammed into the ocean, the blast sending waves dozens of meters high surging outward.
Manhattan, New York.
"What an incredible work of engineering! Truly a miracle!"
"The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the friendship and freedom of our two nations!"
"No matter how many times you see it, it's always awe-inspiring!"
"Look—what's that?"
The tourist crowd was bustling as usual, with foreigners and proud Americans alike admiring the monument.
Suddenly, a voice cried out, pointing at a rapidly approaching black speck in the sky.
"Is that… a bird?"
Someone guessed, but it was moving far too fast.
The next instant—
Boom—
A deafening crash. The towering Statue of Liberty was struck, the metal frame groaning under the impact. Before shocked, disbelieving eyes, the statue cracked, bent, and collapsed.
In the three-meter-wide crater at the base, Captain America lay sprawled unconscious.
"Damn! Air raid! Air raid!!"
"This is an insult to America!"
"Help! Somebody pull me up!"
"Is this where our tax dollars go—so you can wine and dine? How does an air raid hit New York?!"
The crowd was a mix of panic, fury, and chaos.
Then, not long after, came the sound of rolling thunder.
"What… what is that? My God! A tsunami?!"
From the coastline, a wall of water over ten meters high surged in—the aftershock of the Blackwing's ocean crash—thundering toward the shore.
