Chapter 18 - Donald Valdosta's POV

At that moment it was almost as if I could see his lips tremble; Alex stared at me in the silence of the room when I asked him that question. It was obvious that he was withholding something, something that he seemed too afraid to speak of, and I wondered what it could be that he was not ready to talk about.

"Dr Alex, look at me and tell me exactly what you said to her," I demanded of him.

"I do not want you to take this the wrong way, Alpha Donald, but I told her the truth," he said to me, and at that moment I held my breath for a second before letting it out as I stared at him, still waiting for him to continue what he was saying because I could not understand what the truth was at that moment.

"And what is the truth!" I asked him when he would not say any more words but was staring at me.

"I told her everything she needed to know because the truth is that she cannot intentionally terminate the pregnancy at all; it has never been done, but it doesn't mean that no pregnant wolf has ever lost their pups, but it has only been by an accident, something that was never intended, and somehow mysteriously they lost their pup in a miscarriage. However, anyone who tried taking out their pregnancy as a wolf had died in the process," he said to me, and I could not tell why exactly, but I felt a little appeased by that response.

"Was this what you said to her?" I asked him, knowing very well that she was not going to want to take her own life in the process of terminating the pregnancy. I knew how much humans loved their life no matter what they confessed with their mouth.

"That is the truth, Alpha; I told her exactly that. I let her know that it was going to be risky if she tried to take out the pregnancy; she would definitely die in the process," he said to me, and I nodded my head slowly because that was satisfactory.

Deep down inside me I was very satisfied with that response. I knew that she would not do it unless maybe she was going to orchestrate an accident to take out the pregnancy, which was something that I was never going to let happen.

"That is okay, Doctor; you have done your work here, and I really appreciate your instant response to my call. I also hope that you remember the contract you signed to keep this a secret because I would not be pleased to hear an excuse if this ever gets out," I said to him as he nodded his head slowly and stood up from the chair he was seated in.

I was staring at him as I turned around to walk away, but just a few steps away from the table, he stopped and turned back to face me.

"Just one more thing before I leave, Alpha. I think you should also know that she feels depressed.

Depression is not good for a pregnant woman, human or wolf. It affects the pregnancy in a way, and I think that you should put her on a treatment for that too. She might need some sessions of therapy to brighten her mood and let her see that everything is not over yet. She might be so weak inside that she would not even survive the birthing of your child," he said to me, but at that moment I could not respond because every word was completely gone out of me, and I could not find the right response to give to that remark.

"Thank you, Doctor. I'll look into that," I said to him as I nodded my head and began to walk towards the door.

Just as he closed the door behind himself, I let out a sigh of relief because deep down inside of me I was already terrified that maybe something was going on between her and Alex that was going to affect my pup; hence, I called for that instant meeting when I suspected that something was wrong.

I had the thoughts of going into her room and letting her understand that I was going to kill her if she ever hurt my pup, but there was no point in doing that. I only needed to make her believe that everything was fine, and regarding the last words he said to me about her depression state and how it might affect my pocket, I knew that I needed to be cool with her.

It was not going to be an easy journey; it was already promising to be tough, but for my pup I could do anything. I cared less about the human carrying it, and it was still difficult to explain how a human was carrying a wolf pup, but for its sake, I needed to.

I stepped out of my study not long after and was about to walk past the living room towards my bedroom when I heard Vanessa call my name.

"Seriously, Vanessa, why do you keep ambushing me with your presence? It's not interesting," I said when I turned around to see her seated there on the couch.

"I was only waiting for you to be done with your meeting with the doctor so that I couldask you this question that keeps popping up in my head." she said to me.

"If it is not about business, Vanessa, do not speak to me about it," I said to her and made to walk away when she said something that held me glued to that spot for a few seconds before I turned around slowly to face her.

"What did you say?" I asked her in a low voice.

"I found her, the woman you're hiding. Now do I have your attention?" She asked with a smirk on her face.
