Chapter 17 - Donald Valdosta's POV.

The last person in the world I wanted to know about Cassie's presence in the mansion was Venessa, and at that moment I knew I needed to send her away immediately.

"Do you want this deal or not, Vanessa? I have important matters to attend to," I said to her, staring right at her face with my eyebrow narrowed as I waited for her to speak.

She knew better than toying with me when I was serious, and this was one of those moments.

"Fine, I am going to take the deal, but you are not being fair by putting up an interest in a loan you're offering me. "It's not fair; I am your friend." she said to me, and she made to take a step forward, but I gave her a sign to stop.

"I've told you more than once that I do not do charity services. "I am not like any of those people out there who you can go to and manipulate into giving you whatever it is you want; you should go to your boyfriend if you want free money," I said to her as I turned around when she said to me.

"You do not want to tell me who Dr Alex is talking about. When did you start keeping secrets like this, Donald? I thought I knew you."

Those words sounded rather funny to me because I did not understand what 'gave' meant or the idea that she knew me. I turned to her, unable to hold back the smile that curled up on the corner of my lips as I stared at her in silence for a few seconds before slowly moving my gaze to the doctor, who stood some steps away from us, giving him a signal to come closer.

"I am sorry, Vanessa, but you know nothing. I will have my secretary wire you the amount you need and the interest it will accumulate. Good luck," I said to her before opening the door and walking back into the study as Dr Alex followed behind me.

I could hear her mumbling some words as I walked into the study, but I had no care in the world for whatever it was she was saying.

"Welcome, Doctor; please have a seat," I said to Dr Alex, treating him as if he had not been to that same study room earlier before then.

"Thank you, Alpha. I must say that the lady in your custody is very stubborn, and you may need to take things a little easier with her to be able to have her do the things you want." He said to me immediately after he took a seat before my desk while I sat on the other side of the table staring at him.

"Did she give you a tough time?" I asked him in a calm voice.

"Not really, but she was very insistent that she needed no medications from me and that she wanted to meet this doctor she used to know," he said to me, and I nodded my head slowly.

She kept talking about how she wanted to go see the doctor at the fertility hospital, but that was not going to be possible anymore. I did not want anyone to know her whereabouts at the moment, and it was because I needed my pup to be safe.

"Did she say anything else to you?" I asked him in a calm voice, looking away from him, but I sensed his hesitation as I made the move to pick a pen from a drawer in the desk.

He hesitated for about three seconds before he cleared his throat and said to me, "She was worried, sir; she was uncomfortable and wanted to be alone, but I told her that you were not going to leave if she did not take the treatment, and that was why she changed her mind and agreed to take the treatment with me," he said to me; however, I could tell that that was not everything he wanted to say.

"So Alex, I have known you right from when I was a boy, and I have given you the respect until now, but I'd love it if the respect were reciprocated," I said to him this time, lifting my gaze to him as I stared directly at his face, and I saw the way his expression slowly began to change as he adjusted himself on the seat.

"I do not think I understand what you're saying, Alpha," he said to me in a calm voice. If there was one thing I loved about Alex, it was that he knew how to comport himself in every situation.

"That was not all she said to you, right? "I need you to tell me the truth in her own exact words. What did she say to you?" I asked again. This time my gaze was intense. I was waiting eagerly to hear him say the words, and I knew my instincts would instantly kick in if he tried to lie.

He, however, was silent; he didn't say a word immediately. He stared in silence for about 10 seconds before saying to me in a rather low voice.

"I think you should be vigilant because she complained about how she knew she was in your custody because of the pregnancy, and she was looking for every opportunity to take it out. "I do not know what your relationship with this young lady is, but I think she's ready to risk anything to get the pregnancy out because she thinks it will earn her freedom from you," he said to me, and at that moment I felt the anger in me beginning to rise.

I wanted to speak, but the words came off as a chuckle. "Did she really say that to you?" I asked him in a calm voice, staring at his face, as I wanted to hear what his response was going to be.

"Alpha Donald, I know you are displeased to hear this, but you need to be careful with her; you need to let her understand that you're not going to hurt her. She's only terrified," he said to me, speaking in her favour.

"And what did you say in response to her?" I asked him.
