The alley's air froze. Kingpin looked up, squinting at James. The 200-kilogram crime lord straightened, releasing Spider-Man's neck, drawing a gilded Desert Eagle and firing.
Bang! The bullet stopped 10 centimeters from James's forehead, trembling, then falling. Kingpin's pupils shrank.
"That's it?" James tilted his head.
He vanished, reappearing to grab Kingpin's throat, lifting him like a doll. The giant thrashed. "Who… are you?" he choked.
James leaned close, voice cold. "I hate guns pointed at me."
Kingpin's eyes showed fear, fumbling for a weapon. James pinched, Crack! shattering his wrist. Kingpin screamed.
"Next life, don't be so reckless," James said. "Useless."
Kingpin's eyes flashed madness. "I… beg…"
"Good. Begging to die? Granted." Snap! Kingpin's neck broke, his body crumpling.
James stood over Peter's corpse, glancing at Kingpin's. Was this Miles's universe? His super senses scanned—no Miles, but Green Goblin, Prowler, Scorpion, Tombstone. A Miles-less Miles universe?
"What happened?!" a voice called. A Spider-Man in a red-blue suit stood at the alley's mouth, mask half-off, shocked.
"Another Peter Parker?" James raised a brow.
The Spider-Man eyed the bodies, stepping back. "Who are you? What's this?"
"As you see, I took out Kingpin and found your corpse," James said.
"My corpse?!" He looked closer, paling. "That's… me?!"
"From another universe," James nodded.
"Hey! Who are you?!" Another Spider-Man swung down, unmasking a young face, eyeing them warily.
James smiled. "Tobey Maguire Spider-Man?"
The first Spider-Man frowned. "What's 'another one' mean?"
A third figure landed, unmasking. "You're Peter Parker too?" James asked—Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man.
"What?" Garfield-Spider-Man said.
Another figure landed on a dumpster. "What's going on?" A blonde girl unmasked—Gwen Stacy, Ghost-Spider.
"Gwen?" James nodded. "Team's growing."
Pop! Pink smoke burst, revealing a pig in a Spider-suit. "Where am I?!" Spider-Ham dusted himself off.
A cartoonish girl, Peni Parker, slid down a wall. "Uh, hi?"
A noir Spider-Man emerged from shadows. "The multiverse's cracks are widening."
James laughed. "Spider-Man convention?"
"Aaah!" A figure fell from a sky rift, crashing. "Ow! What? So many Spider-Men?!" He stood, unmasking—Tom Holland's Spider-Man, chattering. "Peter! Peter?! Gwen?! Spider-Ham?! Cartoon Spider?! Noir?! And… who's this? Superman? Cool suit! Here to help or arrest us? You don't look evil, but you killed Kingpin? Oh no, what about my universe? May's waiting for dinner!"
Gwen covered his mouth. "Peter, chill."
Holland-Spider mumbled. James rubbed his temple. "Okay, simple explanation." He pointed at Kingpin's body. "He built a collider to find his family, pulling you all here."
Tobey-Spider frowned. "We're from different universes?"
"Yup," James said. "If you don't return soon, you'll vanish."
"What?!" they shouted.
Holland-Spider asked, "How do we get back?!"
James looked skyward. "Shut down the collider, and the rifts will fix themselves, sending you home."
Garfield-Spider said, "Let's go!"
Gwen asked, "Kingpin's dead. Who's running it?"
Noir-Spider growled, "His goons."
James nodded. "So—" Boom! A massive energy beam lit the sky, buildings pixelating. "It's out of control!" Peni cried.
James assigned tasks: Tobey, Garfield, Holland to shut down the collider; Gwen, Peni, Noir to evacuate civilians; Spider-Ham for comic relief.
Holland-Spider protested, "Why me for the machine? I don't know how!"
Garfield-Spider patted him. "We've got Tobey."
Tobey-Spider sighed. "I studied biology."
James groaned. "Fine, I'll do it." He flew toward the collider, leaving the Spider-Men staring.
Holland-Spider gaped. "He's Superman!"
Gwen shouted, "Move, people!"
"Spider-Men, assemble!"
