Chapter 4 - Beasts

"No, that's not what I meant." Vaalk felt like crying.

"I mean… where am I, really? Ever since I woke up earlier, I could tell I had lost some pieces of my memory. I can't remember much of anything."

Making up a random excuse about amnesia on the spot Vaalk hoped it would fool the Shaman and he would believe him... And it did.

"Memory loss?" The shaman responded . "That's sounds serious. But I wouldn't say I'm surprised. When you were brought here and I couldn't find any obvious injury on you, I guessed the problem came from somewhere I couldn't observe"

"Some moments ago, I was on the verge of thinking you faked the incident just so you could eat some of my porridge"

Vaalk's smile became strained and his lips started twitching.

"Haha, yeah. I would never do such a thing"

'Luckily I didn't do that, this old man seems vengeful' Vaalk wiped the non-existent sweat from his brows.

"Anyway..." the Shaman continued.

"Considering you don't even remember who you are and how no one has come to find you since you got here, it's safe to say your family doesn't care about you that much or you're an orphan"

"An orphan?" Vaalk mumbled to himself

'I wouldn't be surprised if he had family and they didn't care about him though; he seems like a trouble maker' the Shaman also mumbled to himself

"Anyway, there isn't much to tell though" He continued. "You're currently in Grokbang Village, in the great forest of Zura."

"The great forest of Zura?" Vaalk asked

"Yes, it's an enormous forest that houses a great deal of creatures; monsters, magical beasts and you can even find some spirit beasts." The Shaman paused to make sure Vaalk was listening

"What are spirit beasts?" Vaalk asked again, interrupting the shaman.

The shaman paused and looked Vaalk in the eyes. "If you keep interrupting me like this, we aren't going to be done here," Vaalk hurriedly apologized, promising not to interrupt him again.

"Spirit beasts are beasts so powerful our small tribe can't begin to comprehend the power they hold. Legend says they even have the ability to transform into humanoid creatures" The shaman spoke with a sense of awe mixed with a bit of fear.

"Luckily for us, our village is located in the outskirts of the forest where we aren't in a great deal of danger from being attacked by those powerful creatures."

"Also, the scouts and the warriors of the village often go out on patrols to clear out any Monster or the occasional Magical beast that wonders into our territory. That's mostly it."

"Oh, Magical beasts are beasts with cores in their body that greatly increases their strength and also provides them with the ability to control an element."

"Unless you have any other question, I suggest you finish your porridge and scram, you've already over stayed and your face pisses me off."

The Shaman didn't wait for Vaalk to ask anything else as he turned around to continue his activity. Ignoring whatever he said earlier about extra questions, it was obvious he wasn't actually in the mood for any extra questions.

Vaalk's lip couldn't stop twitching. What does he mean my face pisses him off, I haven't even done anything to him. Is it because of my charm stat? Am I that ugly even from Goblin standards?' Vaalk felt like crying once more.

He quietly decided to finish his meal while he tried to assure himself that he wasn't that ugly. 'The shaman is just a cranky old Goblin that's why he was being like that. Yeah!'

After finishing his meal, it was time for him to leave. Even though the Shaman obviously didn't like him, Vaalk felt grateful to him as he let him stay in his house for two days and also provided him with a meal after he woke up.

Bidding the Shaman farewell, who responded with a grunt. Vaalk left his home, for it was finally time for him to experience this new world he was in.

In a great mood for the future, he strode out of the shaman's house with vigor and in great strides, until…

"ahhhhh! It's the creep! Run!"

Some little goblins saw him and one of them screamed in terror while they ran away for their dear lives.

Vaalk was too stunned to speak, he was frozen "Am… Am I that ugly?"

He suddenly didn't feel that optimistic about his future anymore…
