Chapter 6 - Survival

Emerging from the trees was a monstrosity of a wild boar. It had gotten wind of the fight between Vaalk and the now-dead, smaller boar. It stared at Vaalk, then at the boar at his feet, and then at Vaalk again.

"Haha, would you believe me if I told you he was like this when I met him?" Vaalk laughed nervously.

The Boar's eyes went red; it roared. Its roar sounded like thunder in Vaalk's ears. Its eyes filled with malice had locked onto Vaalk; it was going to make sure it killed this puny Goblin

Remark: You had better start running. Lol

"Shit"

Vaalk didn't wait to read the system's remark; as soon as he saw the eyes of the boar turn red, he bolted. His earlier excitement had all but vanished.

His body was pumping with so much adrenaline, his legs moved fast, much faster than his mind would fathom if he could think properly.

He could hear the thumping of the boar as it gained on him; the ground shook with its pursuit.

"Shit Shit Shit. Didn't they say they cleared the area of dangerous beasts?! How the hell did this guy get here?! I'm in trouble now.

What do I do?" He ran, using his small, nimble body to his advantage. He wove through the trees, ducking under low branches, in the hope that they would slow down the truck-sized beast that was on his tail.

The beast's roars and heavy breath echoed like thunder in his ears. It was faster than him; his 2 small legs couldn't outrun the level 15 beast. It was gaining on him

"Please let this be a dream? I hope I wake up in my bed at home at any second now." Vaalk once again started doubting reality

Turning to take a peek behind him, he saw the beast barreling through the trees and the breaking branches like they were twigs; it scared him shitless. They weren't slowing it down, not even a little; they did next to nothing.

"OMG OMG OMG. What do I do?" He just kept running without aim, wondering what his next course of action would be… Then, a flash of memory – the spike pit he identified earlier! While he was making use of his analysis skill, he saw a spike pit covered with vines and leaves. 'That could work! Yes, that could actually work! The pit looked large enough; it should easily contain something this size.'

With a destination in mind, Vaalk turned sharply, his heart still pounding as he began to lead the beast toward the general direction he remembered.

'Where is it? Where?? There it is!' Spotting the pit at a distance, he increased his pace with an extra burst of energy. The beast, blinded by rage and bloodlust, kept coming at him; it was so close he could almost feel its breath on his skin.

He got to the edge of the trap and leaped over, rolling to safety on the other end, but the beast had gotten close enough. It got a hit in on Vaalk before it fell into the pit.

Bam!

A loud crash followed by a bellow of pain and anger. It had been impaled by the numerous spikes in the pit, they dug into its body, piercing through its tough hide like it was cotton. It thrashed around trying to come free, but the spikes held it fast, and blood gushed out of its wounds.

Vaalk didn't hesitate. Seizing the moment, he grabbed his dagger, rushed and scrambled over to the edge of the pit, and jumped on top of the beast, stabbing it relentlessly in its neck and eyes, still fueled by adrenaline.

He continuously stabbed the beast until its struggles weakened, its roars became faint whimpers, until it shuddered and went still.

Vaalk didn't stop until he heard the system go off in his mind

Vaalk collapsed onto the now dead beast, his chest heaving, he kept taking in breath after breath like he had been starved of it for days.

"I live!!" He let out a cry of triumph; he had never felt anything similar before, his life hanging by a thread with death just literally behind him. But he won, he was the victor.
