MHGA Chapter 182 – Night City! I'm Back!!!
"..."
David gripped the Great Sword tightly, his hands trembling ever so slightly.
When choosing a weapon earlier, the moment he thought about facing those damn thugs in Night City again, his hands started to shake uncontrollably.
This return to Night City… was really to help himself find peace of mind.
David could tell—Kairo and the others had clearly decided to act quickly for the sake of his mental state.
Even so, right before departure, David couldn't stop his hands from trembling.
"David."
Kairo Retsu noticed David's expression and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Calm your nerves, Hunter… The people we're going with this time aren't like those in the Night City you used to know."
"We're going to rescue someone. Not to fight, kill, or hack each other to pieces…"
Kairo tapped the massive Great Sword on David's back.
"This thing? It's not made for picking fights with that kind of trash."
"Huh?"
David blinked in confusion, hand still on the sword.
"Then what are we supposed to do?"
"It's simple. We just have to get your mom out of that hospital."
Kairo smiled. "We can manage that. But before that…"
Kairo suddenly pulled out a Shroom Boar Mask and shoved it right onto David's head.
"Ah!"
David yelped, startled by the sudden hooding. He quickly pulled the mask off and stared at it in confusion.
"What is this?"
"Official gear for Masked Heroes! If you're willing, you can even strip down to just gym shorts and join the Rescue Supreme Masked Hero Club."
Kairo gave a thumbs-up.
"But there's one more thing. Very important."
"…Which is?"
David found the so-called "club" hard to take seriously, but then saw Kairo produce a bottle of green Mega Potion G.
"Do you have a cyberdoc you trust?" Kairo asked.
"Because once your mom's safe, you'll still need a place to stay in Night City.
If you don't… I do know a great one. Worked with him many times.
Though… the current version of him doesn't exactly know me."
"You—you've been to Night City before?!"
David was floored.
"Why the hell would you know a cyberdoc there?!"
"Hard to explain. Let's just say… Viktor's a real pro."
Kairo rubbed his chin.
"So think about my suggestion. People in Night City can identify you with a simple scan.
If all you've got is a mask, they might still recognize you. And you don't want that kind of heat."
"I'll take it!"
David answered without hesitation.
"If it means mom stays safe… But why the cyberdoc?"
David's question trailed off as Kairo uncorked the Mega Potion G—
And dumped it right over him.
The potion, brimming with vitality, activated the moment it touched David's body.
David suddenly felt his entire body shift.
His cybernetic eye went black—he couldn't see anything.
Panic started to well up inside.
In the darkness, he felt something being forcibly ejected from his body.
He even heard two plop sounds…
Backing up in a hurry, David suddenly regained his vision.
But all the overlays, the enhancements, the displays from his cyberware—
They were gone. Completely gone.
And in Kairo's hands…
Were his cyber-eye and a whole handful of other mechanical parts.
"W-What the hell is this?!"
David shouted as he frantically checked his body.
His once-modified body…
Was now entirely flesh.
Even the mandatory Night City cyber-eye and connector ports had vanished without a trace.
"You had this many implants?"
Kairo tilted his head, arms full of components.
"I thought you weren't that modified yet, but wow, you've got quite the haul."
"All my cyberware's gone?!"
David still couldn't believe it.
What was that potion?!
How could it forcibly regrow body parts that had long been replaced by cybernetics?
"Monster Hunter Vitality, kid!"
Kairo handed the parts to a nearby Felyne for safekeeping.
"Now—put your mask back on…"
He pounded a fist against David's chest.
"You're not David Martinez from Arasaka Academy anymore.
You're just a nameless, untraceable masked hero here to save someone."
"Those implants can go back in later—get a cyberdoc to re-install them if needed."
Kairo added, "But for now, you'll have to get used to living without 'em."
"Guildmaster… thanks."
David said, touched. He pulled the Shroom Boar Mask back over his head.
"I swear—I'll become a great Hunter!"
"Then let's move out."
Kairo took a deep breath, then turned to Joseph and Himmel.
"About Night City… You two probably saw what it's like when you watched Edgerunners. That place is chaos."
"Himmel… I'm counting on you for the rescue."
"If David's mom is seriously injured, splash some potion on her. At the very least, she'll survive."
"Leave it to me."
Himmel's calm, gentle voice inspired confidence.
"I won't let anything happen to her."
"Joseph—you're crucial in this mission too."
"Me?"
Joseph blinked.
"Himmel's here, isn't he? What use am I?"
"You've got Hermit Purple, don't you!"
Kairo clenched a fist.
"Use that stand of yours to figure out a way to hack the Scavs' cyberware!"
"Hey! I just awakened this 'Stand' thing, I don't even know how it works yet!"
Joseph shouted.
"Besides! Weren't you the one who just said my Stand is the most useless one?!"
"Jokes are jokes!"
Kairo grabbed both Joseph and David—
And stormed out of the base.
"Night City!!! I'm baaaaaack!!!"
