Chapter 12 - Ch-12 Dead Man's Town Final

"If music be the food of love, play on." -William Shakespeare

I particularly like this saying because, truly, Music is something that has the power to decide what the mood of the setting will be. Of course, we have all also seen movies, shows, or so that depict how even the sweetest lullabies can emit fear into the heart of the watchers. Thankfully, this wasn't too similar to it.

A slow, soft tune followed into the night's peak.

"Wake up, Yumi. It's time to move out of here." Death whispered into Yumi's ear, making her wake up from her slumber that lasted a mere hour, only to find no one there. But it was nothing short of a better opportunity to be out of such a place.

She draped her face with the cloth lying next to her and decided to move out into the streets. It was almost empty, with some lights hovering over from the hanging lamps and the moonlight that shone upon the town. Some people were still out, buying some goods, and it was deemed a lovely opportunity to pack some food for the trip ahead, for who knew what was to come next.

She first pickpocketed some money from a stranger, around another 5 coins. With that, she packed herself some breadnels and peristaltic noodles and was ready to go, not that it would have killed her to remain starving, but who wouldn't want to eat delicious street food, no? Now, on to the second agenda, commute and destination.

Well, the destination didn't really matter, as long as it was better than this town. But how would she be able to commute anywhere at this time, in this desert-like place, where there were again no vehicles. Was she to wait for morning once more, only to be hunted down and be done for? No. She couldn't wait. This was the perfect time to make a move, and if it meant walking in that goddamn desert, as long as there stood a chance that there might be a place better than this. But how would she know? How would anyone know? But if you really thought about it, you might as well die roaming in a desert than be eaten alive by gross, dead people. So the decision was final, let's get the hell out of here. Simple, right?

She made a run for it. Yep, that's right. She didn't look left or right, whether anyone was watching her or not, and just walked out of the town gate. Then, she ran. She ran to whatever lay in front of her. She ran and ran and ran until she tired herself out, only to reach back where she had left - Dead Man's Town.

She took a different turn, and yet, she still reached back to it. Death watched her from afar, watching her every move like a hawk in the air, trying to look for its prey. Well, this is entertaining to watch at least. She's starting to understand where she's stuck. I would take her out right now, but it's sometimes more fun to watch people suffer... My subordinates in hell must have the time of their living time... Tch tch... If only she had the Sigil. But she's not even a proper immortal, forget a God... He snorted.

The Sigil, or rather, the Sigil of Approval, was assigned to verified immortals in the higher commissions or at higher positions in the government of any distinct Sector(Realm of every separate God/ Goddesses, not referring to Mortal Realm, Heaven and Hell in a separate category as well; Sectors are specific realms of Gods). It is a tattoo that should appear when you hold your hand against divine prison gates, and small spaces such as Dead Man's Town that are entrapped under an area guarded by some divine power. Gods/ Goddesses can walk right through as they hold the power to assign Sigils.

It was a specific place, encompassed under a spherical dome, whose shell you couldn't break out of. Yumi stood still, watching the surroundings. So, it's an enclosed space. But... how do I break out of it? She reached out her right hand afar, and started to walk forward, trying to find the wall of the dome, and she did. Upon touch, it glowed a bright pink, and Yumi walked right through it, her right palm glowing with the engraving of the Sigil of Approval. She looked at her hand, amused, and Death was surprised. Only then did he appear in front of her, looking at her with somewhat anger. "How did you do that?", he asked her.

"Do what?", she asked, slightly happy to see that Death hadn't completely abandoned her.

"Walk out of there- How do you have a Sigil of Approval?"

"Sigil of Approval?"

"Who gave you that?"

"I don't know, I just reached out my hand, I was trying to find the wall to locate where it was."

Odd. Yet, not surprising. You are ultimately an Anomaly, and I shouldn't be surprised that you can do things you are unaware of. But Sigil of Approvals are handed out, and you had one. You're not a God either. This means someone has already verified you as an immortal, and that is the concerning part... That means someone else knows that you're here. And now, you're registered in the list of the dead, even though you're transitioning. Someone is in a hurry to replace me, it seems. And I will find out who.

Yumi smiled, continuing to look at the sigil in her hand while death looked at her with a hint of worry. Yee, magical stuff is so much fun, I almost feel happy...
