Chapter 148 - Cade's Response

Phil Coulson looked at the treadmill that resembled a torture device, scratching his head in confusion. He felt like he was falling behind the times.

Would anyone actually buy something designed like that?

He stopped Cade Eagle, who was enthusiastically describing the treadmill's potential: "I'm sorry, Mr. Eagle, but our time is limited. Let's get to the point."

Cade was still somewhat reluctant but could only follow the two agents into the villa's living room.

Phil Coulson sat on the sofa, placing a portable recorder beside him, and surveyed the villa's furnishings. Surprisingly, the villa's decor was extremely simple. The wooden furniture was simple in style, and the walls were just covered with wallpaper, with no signs of luxury items.

Tessa placed a plate of sliced fruit on the coffee table and then sat down to the side. She was skeptical about Cade's ability to handle these agents, and she prepared to step in if needed.

"Ahem..." Phil Coulson cleared his throat. "First, we want to know the identities of the two Mexican assassins you hired."

"They were contacted by my boss, Clark Kent. He has some special connections in Bolivia and contacted some friends in Mexico."

Cade explained.

"I don't know who they are. We went our separate ways after we got back to the farm."

On the way back to the farm from New York City, Eclipse had predicted that they might be investigated by S.H.I.E.L.D. He contacted Alejandro in Bolivia and Professor Connors, and they repeatedly simulated and discussed a relatively foolproof plan.

Phil Coulson observed Cade's expression, his face giving nothing away.

"According to the agents' eyewitness reports, Mr. Cade, you left with the mysterious Half-beast that appeared in New York. Can you tell us what happened after you left the agents?"

"We split up not long after we left. To be honest, the three of us were scared to death, afraid they'd suddenly attack us. Do you know where those... uh... Half-beasts came from?"

Cade asked in response.

"We're investigating, and we believe we'll have results soon."

Phil Coulson's face betrayed no emotion, as if this was truly nothing more than a routine investigation.

He then asked many details about Cade's trip to New York. Because of interrogation expert Alejandro's prior guidance, Cade answered with clear logic, and even when Phil Coulson casually repeated questions, nothing was revealed.

He also asked Tessa a few questions, and the two's descriptions didn't conflict.

Phil Coulson couldn't help but suspect that Natasha's intuition was mistaken; perhaps Cade was truly just unfortunately caught up in the turmoil.

A smacking sound beside him interrupted his thoughts. Coulson turned his head and saw the agent he had brought with him, holding sliced oranges and eating them with gusto, his mouth full of juice.

He had already eaten most of a plate of sliced oranges and grapes.

Feeling the icy gaze of his superior, the agent reluctantly put down the orange peel, and pulled a tissue to wipe his mouth and hands.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Eagle. I wonder if Mr. Clark Kent is at the farm?"

Phil Coulson asked the final question. S.H.I.E.L.D. had already sent agents to Bolivia to investigate Clark Kent's background.

The chairman of the mining company had passed away. His children, who inherited his estate, only knew that their father had over a dozen illegitimate children and that a large portion of the family fortune had been lost to them. They had never met all of the illegitimate children.

Alejandro had arranged this identity for Broly. "The Boss has been handling affairs in Bolivia during this period."

Phil Coulson stood up.

"Then we hope Clark Kent will notify us after he arrives in America, Mr. Eagle. We have some matters we need to discuss with him."

Cade shook his hand:

"I need to get the Boss's approval first."

Phil Coulson forced a harmless smile.

"Of course, no problem at all."

He took the large bag of oranges Tessa handed him, holding it in his hand.

Cade led the two of them out of the villa, preparing to see them to the farm gate. Phil Coulson put the oranges into the car. Just as he was about to get in, his peripheral vision caught sight of a mottled tiger crouching in the grass, its eyes, filled with wildness, fixed on them.

Although he couldn't see the whole tiger, Cade was certain he'd never seen a tiger bigger than it. Its fur was smooth, its muscles layered, and its two thick forearms could almost slap a person to death.

He was startled and fumbled for the pistol in his underarm holster.

"Roar!"

The tiger sensed his hostility and leaped from the grass like a yellow phantom, pouncing towards Phil Coulson.

A wild, savage killing aura from the wilderness washed over them, causing even the battle-hardened Phil Coulson's heart to skip a beat.

"Don't shoot! Don't shoot!"

Cade hastily stopped the two agents who were about to fire, and then stepped in front of the charging tiger.

"Bang!"

The tiger pounced on him, pinning him to the ground, and opened its maw, licking Cade's face.

"Alright, alright, Kitty, they don't mean any harm."

Cade struggled to free himself from the tiger's embrace. He had clearly driven all the beasts into the woods in the corner of the farm before.

Fortunately, almost all the beasts were raised by him, and Kitty was already familiar with his scent, or the situation would have been much worse.

Kitty and Gulu often accompanied Kakarot in her training, and their strength had surpassed the limits of their kind. Cade didn't think two pistols would be enough to stop it.

If two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were killed by Kitty on the farm, then Phil Coulson would really be in deep trouble.

Up close, Phil Coulson realized that this tiger was even bigger than he had estimated, not much smaller than a full-grown bull. Its extremely sleek body contained explosive power.

"This is Boss's pet, kept on the farm. A bit mischievous."

Cade Eagle rubbed Kitty's fluffy head.

Phil Coulson put his pistol back in its holster; his heart hadn't calmed down yet.

"Your boss has some very unique hobbies."

In America, it was legal to privately own tigers, and the number of captive tigers even exceeded the total number of wild tigers worldwide. However, these captive tigers usually weren't in good condition due to their narrow range of activity, and there was a very serious problem of inbreeding.

This tiger was in exceptionally good condition, its wildness even surpassing that of its wild counterparts.
