Chapter 149 - Titan

Nick Fury sat in his office, toying with an orange. He had already carefully reviewed the report Phil Coulson had submitted.

He casually tossed the report aside. Compared to the myriad of chaotic situations S.H.I.E.L.D. had been dealing with lately, Cade Eagle, with his few suspicious points, was insignificant.

Recently, there had been a new discovery in the saltwater lake that the Green Goblin had bombed. Agents who dove down found many small metal fragments after digging up the mud at the bottom of the lake. The photos of these fragments were on his desk. Although severely deformed and rusted, the Osborn Industries logo was still clearly visible.

Apparently, there was a secret Osborn Industries laboratory under the beach the Green Goblin had attacked, and Norman Osborn was very likely hiding there before.

Unfortunately, the Green Goblin's attack was too powerful, and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s findings underwater were extremely limited. They didn't find any more clues besides these metal fragments.

If he could, he hoped to cooperate with the Green Goblin. Compared to the Green Goblin, the monsters created by Osborn Industries were clearly more reckless and posed a greater threat to stability.

Unfortunately, the Green Goblin was too elusive, and S.H.I.E.L.D. had no way to communicate with him.

Cat-Man, whose strength was similar to the Green Goblin's, seemed to have completely disappeared from the earth. Hawkeye, disguised, had joined the Continental Hotel, but had never seen Cat-Man there again.

Dealing with Norman Osborn's attack was something S.H.I.E.L.D. had to handle themselves.

He stood up, scanned his iris, and entered the director's private elevator. The elevator quickly descended, soon reaching the underground levels of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. The entire underground area was almost completely excavated, transformed into a weapons production facility.

This place housed the elite scientists and researchers from both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Industries, carrying out the Titan project under the leadership of Tony Stark.

After simulations run on a supercomputer, Tony Stark decided on a height of eighty-nine meters for the Titan. This height would allow it to contend with an adult Godzilla while maintaining flexible mobility. A larger size wasn't impossible; the power of the large Arc Reactor could easily energize a larger design. However, the material's strength and the hydraulic drive's output power limited the Titan's size.

If the Titan were designed to be too large, its own weight would be enough to crush it.

Currently, the project was still in the skeleton phase. Because the Titan's skeleton was so massive, it couldn't be forged as a single piece. Tony Stark also abandoned welding and riveting methods. These traditional connection methods had limited strength. During the Titan's movement and combat, the skeleton might need to withstand tens of thousands of tons of impact force, and the connection points could easily break.

In just a few days, he improved the existing large metal component laser additive manufacturing technology and developed a more advanced laser printer. Using laser sintering, he slowly printed the massive skeleton out of a gold-titanium alloy powder.

Now, robotic arms were assembling these high-strength components, and the Titan's outline was already faintly visible.

"Relying solely on hydraulic devices, the Titan's movements would be relatively clumsy, unable to perform precise and detailed combat maneuvers like a real human body. I've recently found several papers on artificial neuromuscular systems. Although the authors were fools, the papers still have some merit. I've redesigned the neuromuscular formula, you need to quickly produce a finished product for experimental performance."

Tony Stark looked a bit haggard, sporting a beard on his chin, even more unkempt than when he was kidnapped by the Ten Rings. But his eyes were so bright they practically shone.

Even Stark Industries couldn't provide the nearly endless funds and manpower to create a giant like the Titan. It was a genuine money pit. So far, the Titan project had already spent 16.3 billion dollars. To create the complete form, it would likely cost several times more.

Nick Fury didn't even blink when allocating funds, transferring all the money to the Titan project's account.

"Stark, how's the progress? How long until the Titan is combat-ready?"

He was concerned about when the Titan would be finished.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had requisitioned seismic monitoring equipment from the US Geological Survey to monitor underground vibrations in the area near New York. Although the false alarm rate was high, they still managed to pinpoint Norman Osborn's location once. Unfortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. had no means to deal with him and chose not to take action.

The feeling of watching an enemy grow stronger was truly awful.

"I'm not sure. Even for the world's smartest person, this is the first time I've built a weapon of this scale. The progress has been extremely fast so far. The more challenging aspect is the weapon configuration. We need to design several new weapons for the Titan. The only reference we have are the main guns of those battleships from the last world. She can't beat Godzilla with just her fists."

Tony Stark picked up a glass of chlorophyll and took a large gulp. Due to the Arc Reactor in his chest, he had already begun to show symptoms of palladium poisoning. Tony quietly concealed his physical condition, only hoping to build the Titan before he was poisoned to death by the palladium.

The Titan would carry on his will, and completely defeat the Green Goblin.

"What's wrong with your body?"

Nick Fury's single eye stared at Tony Stark.

As an experienced agent, Tony Stark's physical condition naturally couldn't be hidden from him. He had even discovered the palladium poisoning problem earlier than Tony Stark.

"Nothing, just a bit tired lately."

The expression on Tony Stark's face was a little unnatural. He turned around, wanting to supervise the progress of the skeleton's construction.

"I've seen your medical reports, Stark. The palladium levels in your body are over a hundred times the normal limit. I'm surprised you can even stand here."

Nick Fury opened a case and addressed Tony Stark.

"Your father left you a legacy, which might solve your problem. Use this until we completely deal with the side effects of the Arc Reactor."

The muscles in Tony Stark's face twitched as he stared at Nick Fury, saying in disbelief,

"You want me to carry this around all the time? I'll die before I do that!"

Inside the case was a lithium battery the size of a suitcase, connected to a ring-shaped electromagnet.

"You need to grow up, Tony. America needs you alive right now. In terms of keeping you alive, this lithium battery is no different from your Arc Reactor. Remember to recharge it every five days."
