Chapter 22: Left Behind in the Chronos Chase
The Waverider. My favorite time-traveling sardine can. And apparently, a great place for some of the Legends to get stranded in the 1950s. "Seriously, guys? The 50s? Did you forget your poodle skirts and greaser jackets? Because I can whip some up for you. Illusions, baby!" Adam thought, subtly materializing in the Waverider's control room.
[SYSTEM: Temporal Jump Complete. Destination: 1950s (Stranded Legends). Objective: Observe Temporal Stranding. Suggestion: Utilize new ability: Levitation for tactical advantage and comedic effect.]
"Levitation, you say? Don't mind if I do, System. Don't mind if I do," Adam mused, a playful smirk on his face. He knew Ray, Kendra, and Sara were stuck, and Chronos was hot on their heels. Time for some aerial shenanigans.
He found Chronos's agents, looking suitably grim, trying to track the stranded Legends. Adam decided to give them a little taste of the absurd. He floated upside down in front of a bewildered Chronos agent, his feet casually dangling in the air.
"Excuse me, good sir," Adam said, his voice muffled slightly by the inversion. "Just checking, but is this where I sign up for the 'Temporal Bureaucracy' class? Because I heard it's a real headache. All those forms, all those paradoxes…"
The Chronos agent stared, his jaw slack. "What in the…?! How are you…?"
"Trade secrets, my friend," Adam winked, then righted himself with a graceful flip, landing silently. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with destiny. And possibly a very confused assassin." He teleported away, leaving the agent to question his life choices.
[SYSTEM: Levitation used. Duration: Short burst. Energy Cost: Low.]
He then found Sara, Ray, and Kendra, looking exhausted and frustrated, trying to evade Chronos. Adam decided to add a little flair to their escape. He focused, picturing Chronos's time-ship morphing into something utterly ridiculous.
[SYSTEM: Illusion deployed. Target: Chronos's Ship. Effect: Aesthetic Alteration (Comical).]
Suddenly, Chronos's sleek, menacing time-ship transformed into a giant, squawking rubber chicken, complete with tiny, flapping wings. It bobbed awkwardly in the air, letting out a series of indignant BOCK-BOCK-BOCK sounds.
Chronos, mid-pursuit, skidded to a halt. "My ship! What have you done?! It's… it's a fowl!"
Sara, Ray, and Kendra, despite the danger, paused, staring at the giant chicken. Sara actually snorted with laughter. "You've gotta be kidding me."
"Never," Adam said, materializing beside Sara, a wide grin on his face. "Only with the best. So, still up for that 'funny couple' dynamic? Because I think we just leveled up in the 'chaotic' department."
Sara shook her head, a genuine smile on her face. "You're absolutely insane, Stiels. But… you're also surprisingly effective." She then launched into a rapid-fire, sarcastic banter with him as they fought off Chronos's bewildered agents, their chemistry evident even amidst the chaos.
[SYSTEM: Achievement Progress: Plot Deviation (Legends). Current: 30%][SYSTEM: Achievement Progress: Annoy Hero (Mick Rory). Current: 20%]
Adam grinned. "She gets me. She really, truly gets me. This is going to be a beautiful, chaotic relationship."
Back on the Waverider, Mick Rory was grumbling, watching the strange energy signatures on the screen. "That damned magician. Always messing with things. Snart, you see this? His magic is getting weirder."
Snart, a subtle smirk playing on his lips, just shrugged. "Chaos, Rory. It has its uses."
"See, Rory? Even Snart appreciates my genius. You'll come around. Eventually. Or you'll just keep grumbling. Either way, it's a win for me." Adam teleported away, leaving the Legends to deal with their temporal headaches, knowing he'd added a little more absurdity to their already absurd mission.
