Chapter 8 - A Glimpse of Kanak's Quirky Side

As the days went by, Kim So-Min found himself growing more and more fascinated with Kanak's quirky personality. He had never met anyone like her before - her ADHD made her unpredictable and prone to sudden bursts of energy, but it also made her incredibly charming and funny.

So-Min couldn't help but laugh as he watched Kanak play with his beagle, chasing the dog around the backyard with a squeaky toy. He was also entertained by her antics in the kitchen, where she would often get distracted by a recipe and end up making a mess.

One day, So-Min walked into the living room to find Kanak sitting on the couch, completely absorbed in a K-drama. She was giggling and swooning over the lead actor, Ji Chang-Wook, and So-Min couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.

He sat down beside her, trying to get her attention. "Hey, what's so funny?" he asked, nodding towards the TV.

Kanak turned to him, her eyes shining with excitement. "Oh, Ji Chang-Wook is just so handsome!" she squealed.

So-Min raised an eyebrow, feeling a little left out. "Well, I'm a pretty good actor myself," he said, trying to sound nonchalant. "Why don't you watch one of my dramas instead?"

Kanak turned to him, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I'm not interested," she said, shaking her head. "Besides, I've been watching you for a month now, every day. I don't need to watch your dramas to know how charming you are."

So-Min's face fell, and he realized that Kanak was not going to be easily won over. He sighed, feeling a little frustrated, but also intrigued by Kanak's quirky personality

As the days turned into weeks, Kanak's presence in the household became a breath of fresh air. Her quirky personality and infectious laughter won over everyone's hearts, from Halmoni to the household staff. Even So-Min's friends were charmed by her, and they would often tease him about being lucky to have such a wonderful wife.

So-Min couldn't help but feel happy whenever he saw Kanak laughing and joking with the people around her. He loved the way she would tease him and playfully roll her eyes at his attempts to be serious. For the first time in his life, he felt like he was part of a real family, and it was all thanks to Kanak.

As he watched her interact with the people around her, So-Min couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. He knew that this was only a temporary arrangement, and that Kanak would be leaving him after a year. He tried to push the thought aside, focusing instead on the present moment.

But as he lay in bed that night, he couldn't shake off the feeling of melancholy. He knew that he had to find a way to make Kanak happy, to make her want to stay with him beyond the one-year mark.

The next day, So-Min decided to take Kanak on a surprise outing. He took her to a beautiful house on the outskirts of the city, a house that he had been secretly looking at for weeks.

As they walked through the house, Kanak's eyes widened in amazement. "This is beautiful," she breathed. "But why are we here?"

So-Min smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "I was thinking of buying this house for you," he said, his eyes locked on hers. "A place where you can feel at home, where you can be yourself."

Kanak's expression softened, and for a moment, So-Min thought he saw a glimmer of hope. But then her mask slipped back into place, and she smiled politely. "That's very kind of you, So-Min. But I don't know if I'll be staying here that long."

So-Min's heart sank, but he tried to keep his spirits up. He knew that he still had a long way to go to win Kanak's heart.

So-Min's face fell, but he tried to hide his disappointment. He knew that he had to be patient and understanding, given the circumstances of their marriage.

"I understand," he said, forcing a smile onto his face. "But I want you to know that I'm committed to making this work, Kanak. I want to make you happy, even if it's just for a year."

Kanak's expression softened slightly, and she looked at him with a hint of curiosity. "Why are you doing this, So-Min?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "You don't have to try so hard. I'm just a means to an end, after all."

So-Min's heart ached at her words, but he knew that he had to be honest with her. "I'm doing this because I want to," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I want to get to know you, Kanak. I want to understand what makes you tick. And I want to make you happy, even if it's just for a little while."

Kanak's eyes searched his face, as if looking for any sign of insincerity. But So-Min's expression remained genuine, and eventually, she nodded slightly.

"Okay," she said, her voice still soft. "I'll try to make the best of this situation. But don't expect me to fall in love with you, So-Min. That's not going to happen."

So-Min's heart stung at her words, but he knew that he had to respect her boundaries. He nodded, trying to hide his disappointment.

"I understand," he said, forcing a smile onto his face. "I just want to make you happy, Kanak. That's all."

Here is the revised version:

So-Min had always known that Kanak was a bit quirky, but he had never suspected that she might have ADHD. It wasn't until he stumbled upon her room, which was a mess of papers, clothes, and random knick-knacks, that he began to piece together the clues.

He saw how her desk was covered in post-it notes, each one with a different reminder or to-do list. He saw how her clothes were scattered all over the floor, and how her bookshelf was a jumbled mess of books, DVDs, and video games.

It was then that So-Min realized that Kanak's behavior wasn't just quirky - it was a symptom of something deeper. He decided to consult with a psychologist, hoping to gain a better understanding of Kanak's condition.

The psychologist, Dr. Kim Hye-Jin, came to the house and met with So-Min. After a brief discussion, Dr. Kim asked to see Kanak's room. So-Min led her to the room, and Dr. Kim's eyes widened as she took in the chaos.

"Ah, yes," Dr. Kim said, nodding. "This is definitely consistent with ADHD. The clutter, the disorganization, the multiple projects started but not finished... it's all classic ADHD behavior."

So-Min felt a mix of emotions - surprise, concern, and a hint of relief. He had been wondering why Kanak was so different, and now he finally had an answer.

"What can I do to help her?" So-Min asked, feeling a sense of determination.

Dr. Kim smiled. "Well, first of all, you need to understand that ADHD is not something that can be 'cured'. It's a neurological condition that requires management and accommodations. But with the right support and strategies, Kanak can learn to thrive."

So-Min nodded, feeling a sense of hope. He was determined to do whatever it took to help Kanak, to support her and understand her. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was willing to try.
