Chapter 18 - The Mission

Chapter 18 Onyi's POV

The Alpha King's eyes seemed to bore into my soul as he leaned forward, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. The man on his thighs walked away "Onyi, I've heard a great deal about your... skills. Your ability to navigate the shadows, to acquire what others cannot. I have a task that requires your expertise."

As he spoke, his gaze drifted to one of the nobles, a young man with piercing blue eyes and chiseled features. The noble smiled, and the Alpha King's eyes lingered on him for a moment before returning to me.

"The Temple of the Black Witches," he said, his voice low and measured. " A place of dark legend, where the ancient ones spoke to the dead and wielded power beyond our understanding."

I nodded, I read it in a novel back at our school library. My mind racing with the implications. The Temple was said to be cursed, a place where evil dwelled and the living were not welcome. " I thought it doesn't exist" I stammered.

"They say the temple holds secrets, Onyi," the Alpha King continued, his eyes glinting with excitement. "Secrets of gold and diamonds, hidden away by the ancient ones. I want you to join me retrieve these treasures ."

I felt a shiver run down my spine as the Alpha King's gaze drifted back to the young noble, his fingers brushing against the man's hand. It was a subtle gesture, but one that spoke volumes. The Alpha King was a man of secrets, and this was one of them.

"I'll need to be careful, Onyi," he said, his voice firm. "The Black Witches were not to be trifled with. But I have faith in your abilities. You will succeed where others would fail." " His highness I have no abilities....." I tried to explain. "This is the only way to prove yourself to me, Onyi or you will lose Amanda to Alexis, it's up to you " he threatened his eyes moved to a corner where Alexis sat. I felt a lump form in my throat.

As he spoke, the young noble leaned in, his lips brushing against the Alpha King's ear. The Alpha King's eyes closed, and he smiled, a look of pure pleasure on his face.

"I'll join you," I said, trying to keep my focus on the task at hand. "But please I need more information about the temple, about the treasures we're looking for."

The Alpha King opened his eyes, his gaze locking onto mine. "I'll provide you with everything " he said, his voice low and husky. "But remember, Onyi, this is a secret mission. No one can know what you're doing. Not even... Amanda."

I nodded, my mind racing with the implications. I knew that I was taking a risk, but the reward could be worth it. And yet, as I looked at the Alpha King, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being used, that there was more to this mission than met the eye.
