Chapter 24 Amanda's POV
I watched as Onyi returned from his meeting with the Alpha King, his eyes clouded with a mixture of worry and distraction. He moved quietly, his footsteps light on the floor, and I could sense the weight of his thoughts. There was a palpable tension surrounding him, a sense of unease that seemed to follow him like a shadow.
As he approached me, I reached out to him, my hand brushing against his arm. "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked softly, trying to coax him out of his shell. My voice was gentle, a soothing melody that I hoped would calm his frazzled nerves.
But Onyi didn't respond. He didn't even look at me, his gaze fixed on some point beyond my shoulder. I felt a pang of concern, wondering what had happened during his meeting. Was it something the Alpha King had said? Or was it something more?
I tried again, my voice gentle. "Onyi, talk to me. What's going on?" I asked, my words barely above a whisper. I wanted him to open up to me, to share his thoughts and feelings. But he remained silent, his expression unreadable.
I could see the tension in his body, the way his muscles were coiled tight with worry. His shoulders were hunched, his jaw clenched, and his eyes seemed to bore into the distance. I knew that look, that feeling of being overwhelmed and lost. And I wanted to help him, to be his rock in the midst of the storm.
Without a word, Onyi leaned into me, his face burying into the crook of my neck. I felt his warm breath on my skin, and my heart melted at the vulnerability of the gesture. It was a moment of raw intimacy, a moment when he let his guard down and allowed himself to be vulnerable.
As I wrapped my arms around him, holding him close, Onyi's body relaxed into mine. His tension eased, and he let out a soft sigh, his breath whispering against my skin. It was a sigh of relief, a sigh of comfort. And in that moment, everything else faded away, and all that mattered was the two of us.
The world outside receded, and we were alone in our own little bubble of bliss. The noise, the chaos, the worries – all of it melted away, leaving only the two of us, suspended in a sea of tranquility.
As I held Onyi, I could feel his eyelids growing heavy, his breathing slowing. He was falling asleep, his body surrendering to the exhaustion that had been building up. I didn't try to rouse him, didn't try to talk to him. Instead, I simply held him, my arms wrapped tightly around his waist, my face pressed into his hair.
The scent of his shampoo filled my nostrils, a familiar and comforting smell that seemed to anchor me to the present moment. I felt his warmth, his heartbeat, his gentle breathing. And in that moment, I knew that everything would be okay, as long as we were together.
As Onyi slept, his body relaxed into mine, and I was left to my thoughts. What had happened during his meeting with the Alpha King? What was bothering him so much? I didn't know, but I knew that Onyi would tell me when he was ready. For now, I was content to hold him, to be his safe haven in the midst of whatever turmoil was brewing.
As I sat there, lost in thought, Onyi's gentle snores were a soothing background hum, a reminder that he was safe, that he was mine. And in that moment, everything felt right with the world. The darkness that had seemed to surround him earlier seemed to recede, replaced by a sense of peace and tranquility. And I knew that as long as we had each other, we could face anything that came our way.
