Tala, who was using human technology, saw all that had happened, and so had her people. Some of them had their legs go weak from fear. They could not understand the power being used by the intruders. They were not using magecraft, witchcraft, sorcery, or any other kind of magic that could explain what was going on. They simply passed each obstacle as though it was nothing. This lack of understanding of their enemy made these people scared.
Tala was no different, but she was the leader, and so she put on a brave face.
"The moment they open the door, blast them with everything you have. John, stay back, and if they somehow survive the magic we throw at them, rip them to pieces," Tala ordered. When her people heard her calm and confident voice, they remembered that they were powerful supernaturals. Most of them were mages and Tala was a sorcerer, with John being a werewolf.
The door was reinforced with magic and Ibale, the most powerful magical metal in all the realms.
It would take some very serious power to break through this door, and yet Tala was somehow already convinced that these people were inevitable. Booom, there was an explosion that released a wave of fire into the mansion as the door was set flying off its hinges.
The powerful blast sent Tala and her people flying through the air.
Some of them were torn to pieces before they released a single spell. Tala used a flight spell, allowing her to maneuver in the air. She chanted faster than her words could be heard and released a wave of water that drowned the entire hall, putting out the fire and absorbing the force from the explosion.
The remaining members of her team cast their water-based spells as fast as they could, releasing ice spears and more.
Three of the intruders were torn to pieces by the powerful spells.
Cate finally got a good look at the weapons being used by these intruders.
These weapons appeared like the guns Cate had heard about so much after her rebirth. This was human technology.
The intruders raised their guns and fired.
Cate had learned that these guns fired shards of metal, and when she heard this, she dismissed guns as a potential problem for her and anyone with magic and real power. Right now, Cate realised how wrong she had been. These things were guns, but not the normal kind. These were larger, with many more parts she could not make sense of. When the intruders fired, the guns did not release shards of metal but condensed beams of magic. This was magic in its purest form, and these people had somehow managed to condense it.
The beams were purple, and as they tore through space, a shrieking sound, as though even the world was against this, was produced. Tala was okay one moment, and in the next instant, she had a large hole through her chest. Her heart was gone.
Cate's hands trembled as she moved her face closer to the mirror. She could not believe what she was seeing.
Tala's team was ripped to pieces with only John left.
Wooohhhooooooo, John let out a terrible howl that shook the mansion.
Some of the intruders had their hearts explode and their brains turned to mush just from hearing this howl.
John's clothes expanded and ripped from the inside as his body expanded and he morphed into a beast very few ever get to see and live to tell the tale. It was a grey wolf the size of an elephant. Its yellow eyes glowed in the water and its paws crushed the concrete.
Its canines shone in the light and glistened with a killing intent unmatched by most.
The intruders saw the wolf, and for the first time since all this began, Cate saw some fear in their movements as they backed away.
Hwooooooo, the wolf howled a second time before it moved. The water that had filled the hall exploded from the force.
When everything settled, only two of the intruders were left. All the rest were in the wolf's mouth. The wolf chewed them and even their mysterious armour was not able to save them this time around. The canines were simply too sharp, tearing through the armour easily.
As the wolf chewed, the hall was filled with screams and sounds of bones being shattered.
The remaining two intruders began firing at the wolf, and to their horror, the concentrated beams of magic did nothing to the terrible creature. The wolf did not move to attack these people. It stayed in place and continued chewing on the intruders in its mouth while watching the people shooting at it, as though telling them that they were next and there was nothing they could do to stop it. The water left the hall, but this was not enough to wash away the fear.
One of the intruders reached into a pocket on their waist and brought out a large grenade. Cate had also learned about these instruments of death, but just like the guns, this grenade seemed to be far more sophisticated compared to the ones Cate knew about. The man pulled out the pin and threw the grenade at the wolf.
John felt a shiver move through his body, and he understood that this grenade had the power to harm him to some extent. He howled at the grenade, creating a powerful sonic blast that disintegrated it before it had the chance to explode.
John swallowed the pieces of flesh in his mouth before he pounced on the remaining intruders. They were all ripped to shreds in less than a minute. No matter what weapon they pulled out, they were still no match for an enraged werewolf.
After clearing out all the intruders, things settled down in the outpost. Tala had lost her heart and had a hole in her chest, but she had used sorcery to keep herself alive. She did not have much life left when Cate carried her into the infirmary.
Cate did not know much about being a healer, but they had Mary. She was a witch, and even though she wasted a lot of time on her laptop, she was still a powerful witch. She began treating Tala using all kinds of potions.
