As Tala was being healed , Cate began examining what was left of the intruders. She was able to ascertain that they were all humans. The armour they wore was made with technology far beyond anything Cate had read about, and so were their guns. After examining the guns and the armour, Cate found that they were powered by a red sphere that released powerful magic. These spheres could not be opened by force, and whenever Cate tried, the spheres exploded. Each explosion was powerful enough to shake the entire city. Cate had to stop for a moment and come up with a better way to figure out what the humans had put in these spheres to allow them to produce so much magic.
Cate took charge of the outpost and made contact with the Avalon Society. A few minutes later, Cate used the Shadow Transmission spell to appear in the Great Hall. This was where the leaders of the Avalon Society met to discuss matters and make decisions regarding the society.
The Shadow Transmission spell was a spell created by the society to facilitate these meetings. This spell cleaved one's shadow from their body and transmitted it over long distances, allowing people to meet. The shadow took on a similar build to the person, but not enough to expose the identities of the council members.
It took only thirty minutes for all the council members to use the Shadow Transmission spell to gather for the meeting. If not for this spell, it would take days to gather all the council members.
Cate's shadow appeared at the center of the Great Hall. The hall was circular with private rooms arranged into the walls. There were hundreds of private rooms. The hall was only illuminated with the minimum amount of light. Cate's shadow stood at the center where she had a beam of light falling over her.
"Let the council meeting begin," a resounding sound filled the hall.
A figure appeared inside the largest and most extravagantly designed private room.
This was the leader of the Great Council.
"We have received reports that Outpost A-0045557 has been attacked by humans," the figure said. Cate tried to make out the figure's appearance, but she could not.
There was murmuring in the Great Hall as everyone tried to make sense of what they had just heard. "How is that possible?"
"The humans are too weak to do anything like that."
"There must be an error in the report."
No one in the hall could believe this news.
In their eyes, the humans were lowly beings without any ability to tap into the true power of the world.
Booom, the council leader struck the floor with their staff.
"There will be silence."
No one spoke after that.
"Team Leader Katerine Staranse was present at the scene. She will now give her report on the matter."
The figure waived its hand and Cate's shadow shimmered until her true appearance was exposed to all.
There were a few gasps of surprise after the name Staranse was announced. The Staranse clan was one of the three Mage clans in the world.
It was a powerful clan with a lot of influence even in the Avalon Society.
Cate calmed herself and began reporting about everything that happened during the raid on the outpost. As she spoke, she cast a simple spell to project her memories of the events onto the air, allowing everyone to see what happened as though they were there. When she cast this spell, there were a few sounds of surprise. She clearly impressed them since this simple spell was not something that just anyone could cast. Cate was still a Master Sorcerer, but there were Supreme Magicians who could not cast this spell.
When she was done, Cate also informed the council about why she had concluded that this attack was carried out by humans. She showed all the evidence she had gathered and explained how the humans had managed to unleash so much devastation.
"I have sent a member of my team, Jordan Staranse, to transport all the evidence I have gathered back to the Immortal realm. She will also bring over the spheres that powered the human weapons with magic."
With this, Cate stopped talking and listened for what the council leader had to say.
Cate could already feel the bubbling anger in the hall. The humans had attacked a single outpost, and this could possibly lead to a war that could change everything.
Cate did not have much interest in safeguarding humanity, but she was also not worried about them. Humans were the creations of the gods, and they would not sit back and let their favorite creation be wiped out.
There was a reason the humans got to occupy so much of the world without having to worry about the supernatural, a danger they believed to be a myth.
They had the protection and favour of the gods. The supernaturals were powerful, but the gods were far beyond power. If provoked by a war against their people, the gods might just decide to wipe out the supernaturals. For this reason, Cate did not believe that the Avalon Society would dare start a war against humanity over a single, seemingly isolated attack.
"You must track down the people responsible for this attack and bring them before the council to face justice," the council leader said after the matter was discussed for a few minutes.
Just as Cate had expected, the Avalon Society would not go too far.
Cate bowed deeply before her shadow dissipated.
Back at the outpost, Cate called for a meeting with all her people, including Tala who had regained some of her health. She was no longer on the verge of death, but she had to be careful.
Cate ordered John, the werewolf, to track the humans beginning from the mansion to wherever they had come from. Everyone else was to gather information around the city.
John began his work that very day, and so did everyone else. After two days of searching, they finally got a few clues about where these humans could have come from. John had managed to follow the humans' scent back to some kind of human military base.
Jordan had returned by then and the group was ready to invade the base.
