Chapter 58 - Unexpected Attack I

The moment the figures approached the mansion, Cate received a message from Tala, the outpost master. It was a warning about what was happening.

Cate had been messing around with Mary when she got the message. She sighed and sat on the bed.

"What is going on?" Mary saw the frustration on Cate's face and could not stop herself from wondering what could have possibly forced Cate to stop what they had been doing. Things were about to get heated, only for Cate to stop. This not only left Mary frustrated, but Cate also appeared annoyed by it all.

"Some fools are trying to break into this place," Cate said.

Mary could not believe what she was hearing. This mansion was an outpost set up by the Avalon Society. The place was secured by a magic powerful enough to stop even the most powerful supernaturals. Cate walked to the dressing table on the side. She lightly bit one of her fingers on her left hand and began creating a magic circle on the mirror.

When Mary saw what Cate was doing, her heart skipped a beat.

From what Mary could tell, Cate was trying to use the Scrying Spell.

This was an ancient spell that had been around since the time of the gods.

This was a very useful spell that allowed a magician to see through the flow of the world. It granted one the ability to see the weaknesses of their enemies during battle, but this was just a fundamental use of the Scrying spell.

Cate had gotten hold of this spell when she was still human so long ago, but even after thousands of years, she had stayed at the Mastery stage of comprehension in regards to how this spell worked. Since Cate had always had a powerful comprehension ability that allowed her to grasp spells and other matters very fast, the fact that she was stuck at the Mastery stage for all this time showed how complex the Scrying spell was.

There were countless spells in the world, but the level of understanding for each spell was divided into only four stages. These stages were Genesis, Mastery, Sky, and Exodus.

In the Genesis stage, the supernatural's understanding of the spell was elementary, and they had to be very careful when using the spell. They needed to follow each step loyally without changing a single word or character, and they had to make sure that their intent while casting the spell remained attuned with the original intent of the spell creator.

In the Mastery Stage, the supernatural had a better grasp of the spell, but they still had to use all the words and characters in the spell. The only thing they could change was their intent while casting the spell, allowing them to have their own thoughts and mindset while casting the spell.

In the Sky stage, the supernatural became able to change words and almost anything about the spell to match their personality better. Above the Sky Stage was the Exodus stage, where the supernatural was able to create variations of the spell. At this stage, the supernatural's grasp over the spell was no different from that of the person who created the spell.

After centuries of understanding the spell, Cate finally managed to reach the Sky stage in regards to the Scrying spell.

As Cate created the magic circle on the mirror, Mary was able to make out that Cate had reached the Sky stage for this spell. This was something that very few people had managed to do in regards to this complex spell. Most people were stuck at the Mastery stage for all their lives, and no matter what they did, they never managed to reach the Sky stage. This had made the Scrying spell a true measure of how powerful a supernatural was.

Cate was now showing that she was truly one of the most powerful supernaturals in the world.

When she was done, the mirror glowed slightly before the magic circle was absorbed into the surface of the mirror.

Images began playing on the mirror. These images showed the people who were breaking into the outpost.

Mary moved closer to the mirror, and the two of them began watching in silence.

After informing Cate of what was happening, Tala began her response to the intrusion. She led her people toward the intruders and waited in the first hall to the entrance.

There was a chance that these intruders would be killed by the many traps set up around the mansion. Over the many years that this outpost had been in place, no one had ever broken through the magic set up to protect the mansion, but just in case, Tala and her people prepared their most powerful spells and waited within the mansion, just in case someone managed to break through.

Watching through the mirror, Cate was amazed by everything she saw.

Mary had to explain some of the things that were happening.

For example, Cate did not know about the security cameras created by humans. These cameras were set up all over the place, and Tala watched the intruders through them. The humans did not have the Scrying spell, and even if they did, they would not be able to use it, but this did not matter since they had created these cameras that allowed them to do some of the things that the Scrying spell did. Cate was very impressed, and yet there was also a seed of fear implanted in her heart at this moment. The things the humans were creating were very terrifying, and Cate was scared that the humans could soon become a very powerful force in this world. They could become powerful enough that the supernatural would have to consider them a force to be respected and feared.

"This could lead to war," Cate thought.

Through the mirror, Cate watched as the intruders broke through one magic spell after another. Nothing seemed to be able to stop their advance. They saw through the powerful illusions. They were immune to the fire that came out of the ceiling, covering them from head to toe. The arrows that appeared out of nowhere were somehow not powerful enough to penetrate the black armour they wore. One had to remember that these arrows were powerful enough to pierce through steel as though it were butter.

When the floor fell away, these people were able to fly using their armour. This armour did not seem to be made from magic, and yet Cate could sense magic being used.

The intruders saw through the darkness and easily fought and defeated the powerful magic beasts placed in their path. The maze they were pulled into did nothing to stop them, and after just thirty minutes, they reached the main door to the mansion. Cate was in disbelief at what she was seeing.

Cate could have passed through the obstacles much more easily and in less time, but she believed that this was because she was Medusa. She did not understand how these intruders had managed to pull this off.
