Before the freed villagers could even process what was happening, Natsuhi was already leading them in a desperate dash toward the village entrance. A large number of puppets swarmed towards Kusuo, many of them unleashing the Mysterious Peacock Method.
Kusuo narrowed his eyes and tightened his grip on his sword. Severing the chakra threads on these ordinary ninja wasn't a problem for him. However, saving the entire village would be no simple task.
Just as Natsuhi and the others were about to escape, the few ninja who had just been freed suddenly reverted to their previous puppet-like state. Kusuo observed carefully through his Transparent World and discovered that the chakra threads he had cut had been reconnected. "How can this be?" He realized that these villagers had more than one chakra thread attached to them.
"I will not let our people end up like this." Seeing them regain their senses only to lose them again, Natsuhi could no longer hold back and charged towards them.
"Don't be reckless!" Kusuo reached out to stop her, but Natsuhi phased right through his hand.
Kusuo stared at her in shock. The ability she had just used was remarkably similar to Obito Uchiha's Kamui. "Can the Star really grant someone such a powerful ability?" He found it hard to believe.
"Mysterious Peacock Method!" Natsuhi plunged into the crowd, and a large number of puppets immediately swarmed her.
"Natsuhi!" Kusuo, unable to stand by any longer, drew his sword and charged into the fray. He didn't use his full strength. He knew that if he did, these puppets would be no match for him, but there were too many people, and he didn't want his attacks to cause collateral damage.
"Lord Kusuo, since you possess such great power, I beg you, please help us save our village!" Natsuhi suddenly dropped to her knees before him.
Although the villagers around them had been returned to normal for the moment, Natsuhi knew that as soon as another group of puppets arrived, they would be controlled again. The only way to truly help them was to find the person casting the jutsu, but that was a near-impossible task.
"Our only choice now is to retreat from here first. Then we can come back together and figure out how to solve this problem."
Though reluctant to leave her people, Natsuhi had no choice but to nod in agreement. At this point, besides Kusuo, no one else could help the Star Village.
"You should really focus on cultivating the chakra within your own body," Kusuo said, glancing at her. Natsuhi looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"When that giant Star fell here, all of us survived by training with the chakra inside it. I've been training diligently as well."
Although she said this, Kusuo could see through his Transparent World that her body wouldn't be able to hold on for much longer. The chakra within the Star was, after all, from the Ten-Tails. When an ordinary person cultivated it, their body would inevitably suffer damage. Moreover, the Star Village had no alliances with any of the major hidden villages. If they could cooperate with Konoha, they might be able to purify the harmful aspects of the Star's energy.
"If you want me to cooperate with you, there is one condition," Kusuo said, looking at her sideways.
Natsuhi's expression was complex. "For a long time, the Star Village has not had much interaction with other villages. We just diligently train our own abilities every day."
Hearing this, and considering the current state of the village, Kusuo understood. The Hoshikage he had met last time must have been deceived by Orochimaru and his cohorts. And the Star they had now was probably no longer the complete one.
"I have a condition. If you agree to it, I will help you solve your village's problems."
Hearing his words, Natsuhi looked at him. The two of them, along with Subaru, ran towards an uninhabited area. A few puppet soldiers chased them from behind, but as they went deeper into the forest, the puppets gradually fell behind. Once Kusuo was certain they were no longer being followed, he stopped.
"I am willing to agree to your terms, but I need to overthrow the village's Hoshikage. After the previous one died, the current Hoshikage has been forcing everyone to recklessly train with the Star's power." In truth, Natsuhi did not advocate for everyone to train with this power, because it wasn't suitable for all of them. Although she was strong now, she knew that everyone who trained with this power would not live for very long.
