This was the first time Kusuo had seen the technique up close. It truly had its own unique characteristics. The surrounding puppets, seeing the blossoming purple chakra, immediately took a few steps back, as if afraid of its power. However, they soon noticed Kusuo standing beside Natsuhi. While they kept their distance from her, they showed no intention of letting him go.
Swoosh.
One of the puppetized Star ninja shot towards Kusuo, its hand clamping down on his neck. Seeing this, Kusuo frowned slightly.
"Get back, I'll help you!" Natsuhi shouted, shoving a puppet out of the way and stepping in front of him.
But Kusuo simply patted her shoulder. "I can handle this myself."
Though shocked, Natsuhi respected his wishes. Kusuo stood his ground as several Star ninja charged at him.
"Mysterious Peacock Method."
Kusuo was rather surprised that these puppetized ninja could still use their village's signature jutsu.
"If you can't handle them, leave it to me," Natsuhi said, having already drawn shuriken from her weapon pouch.
Kusuo didn't reply, simply giving a slight wave of his hand. The Star ninja rarely had contact with outsiders and were very low-key. The reason he was letting them attack freely was to get a feel for the power of the Peacock Method.
"You..." Natsuhi watched as Kusuo was continuously attacked, breaking out in a cold sweat for him. Although she didn't know the extent of his strength, he was, after all, willing to help their village.
"Don't worry, I'm fine."
After a few exchanges, Kusuo gradually began to understand the Star ninja's habits. Watching them use their jutsu, he noticed that they first needed to solidify their chakra. While this increased their attack power to some extent, it was also their weakness.
Kusuo merely dodged the incoming attacks, occasionally feigning weakness and allowing a close-range collision.
"Mother, will Hatake Kusuo be okay?" Subaru asked from the side, worried for him.
"Don't worry. This person is far stronger than we can imagine."
Even with just a few moves, Natsuhi could see that Kusuo's fundamentals were incredibly solid, and his own power was likely not weak. As she suspected, he was holding back.
"Hatake Kusuo, I'll help you!" Subaru, unable to watch any longer, rushed forward. But he was just a child. A puppet threw a single punch, sending him flying.
Natsuhi immediately caught him. At the same time, Kusuo appeared instantly behind the puppet that had struck him. "Sun Breathing!"
His blade flashed, landing several hundred cuts on the puppet's back in an instant. The puppet's body shuddered violently, then stood still.
"What's... what's happening to me?" The freed ninja looked at his hands in shock, then at his comrades.
However, the other puppets immediately drew their shuriken and rushed toward him. Just as Natsuhi was about to leap to his rescue, Kusuo suddenly pulled her back. "We can't save him now. If you go, you'll be throwing your own life away."
Sure enough, when Natsuhi looked up again, the ninja had been pierced through by the other puppets' shuriken.
"So that's how it is."
Kusuo weaved through the puppets, his blade continuously striking their bodies. After just a few minutes, all of them stood motionless.
"What's going on?" Natsuhi asked, looking at Kusuo with confusion before rushing to help the villagers.
"These people have had a puppet jutsu cast on them. I just don't know who could possess such a high-level technique." A person came to Kusuo's mind. He had heard from Kuroko that Orochimaru had stolen all of Chiyo's secret puppet scrolls. This incident was likely closely related to him.
Just then, the puppets throughout the village, having noticed the battle here, began to converge on them. "Quick, get them out of here! Otherwise, they'll end up like that man just now!"
Natsuhi was immediately reminded of how the villager had died.
