"They turned your people into puppets so they could better cultivate the Star's power," Kusuo stated simply, leaving Natsuhi speechless.
"Tonight, I will take you into the village. At night, there are fewer of these puppet soldiers."
As darkness fell, under Natsuhi's guidance, the three of them finally entered the Star Village. The moment they were inside her house, Natsuhi suddenly knelt before Kusuo on one knee.
"I am willing to accept your request, but you must also promise to help me overthrow the Hoshikage."
Kusuo playfully picked up a star-shaped cup in the room. He glanced around and noticed that almost everything in the house was in the shape of a six-pointed star. He had already experienced the power of their Mysterious Peacock Method today. If he could bring such a jutsu under his control, it would be a great asset.
"Are you making a request of me?" Hearing Kusuo's indifferent tone, Natsuhi trembled.
"As long as you are willing to help me overthrow the village's leadership, I am willing to do whatever you ask."
Kusuo tightened his grip on his sword and looked out the window. "As long as you are willing to bring the people of the Star Village to pledge their allegiance to me, and you hand over your Star, I can consider agreeing to your idea."
Natsuhi nodded without hesitation. "As long as you can help my people get rid of the damage to their bodies, I can give you the village's Star." Although the people of the Star Village had always relied on it for training, the power it contained had already caused them great harm.
"I have heard of your name before, Lord Kusuo. I believe you must have a way to help us."
Kusuo's gaze was cold as he looked out at the village. He had already scanned the entire village with his Transparent World but had found nothing out of the ordinary. The village was peaceful, but he detected a great number of chakra threads. All the people who trained in the Peacock Method had been gathered in a single building. It didn't take a genius to guess that was where the Star was kept. The other ordinary villagers, however, returned to their normal state at night, tending to their farms.
Even after several searches, he still found no trace of Orochimaru.
"Don't go wandering around at night. There's a lot of poisonous gas outside the village. It would be troublesome if you were poisoned."
Hearing this, Kusuo was slightly surprised. "Don't worry, I won't go out. And our agreement is sealed. I can help you overthrow their leadership, but in exchange, after this is over, I will take your Star."
Natsuhi gave a slight nod. Her decision to cooperate with him was for the sake of her people's survival. For the current Star Village, if they didn't get rid of this Star, everyone was likely to die because of it.
Kusuo carefully sensed the power the Star possessed. The blade he currently carried wasn't powerful enough. If he could extract the chakra from the Star and give it to Obito, then forge the remaining material into a short sword, his power in future battles would be even greater.
Kusuo had no intention of using the Star to learn the Peacock Method. His main focus was on increasing his portrayal level, which meant finding sufficiently powerful opponents. The Star couldn't provide that kind of boost. The Peacock Method also caused severe harm to the body. And once the Star Village lost the Star, those who practiced the secret method would naturally lose their power.
Although he wouldn't learn it, the Peacock Method had its merits. Not only could it transform chakra into various forms, but it could also be used to extract an opponent's chakra, making it an indispensable tool in battle. It could even be used to form wings for flight. With so many benefits, Kusuo had no intention of giving it up.
He glanced at Natsuhi and Subaru. Subaru was already fast asleep, but Natsuhi was staring worriedly out the window.
"At dawn, those puppets will come out again," she said softly.
"Do these puppets have any special characteristics?" Kusuo was curious. They were, after all, still living people. To turn oneself into a puppet like Sasori of the Red Sand required replacing many organs.
Kusuo quickly formed a hand seal and summoned Kuroko. As the night grew deeper, Natsuhi finally fell asleep.
