Yam started his explanation, "Over many centuries during the Satyug, a caste system was formed on the basis of one's work or you can say occupation. These castes were like classes that divided the people into four major categories based on their work. These classes were, at first, just distinctions between various people. But, with time it grew to be much more than that and as one might expect, it became a hierarchy which was followed not for centuries or millennia but for yugs. The topmost of the hierarchy consisted of the Brahmins, the holy sages who spread the knowledge and wisdom. They liked to live a very simple life, devoid of any materialistic thought and object. The next in line were Kshatriyas, the warriors who lived to protect the people and were also the nobility. They were very prideful and they considered their dharm (duty) to be righteous rulers and just warriors."
