The whole pack house was asleep, but I was not. That one night when I'd managed hours of peaceful, dreamless sleep already felt like a distant, beautiful dream slipping through my fingers.
An ache ripped through my head causing me to grit my teeth in pain. Perhaps, it was fine to pay a visit to the Pack doctor, maybe he'd help me with drugs that could lull me to sleep but the last time I had tried that, it almost caused my mom a panic attack because I had slept for two days.
Since the night before the swearing-in ceremony, Vera hadn't been able to make me another sleeping draught. She claimed the ingredients were rare and hard to find, though she promised she was working on it.
I'd almost asked her again about it, but then the fiasco at the Red Moon ball had happened, and after seeing her so frightened and hurt, I hadn't had the heart to trouble her with my own sleeplessness.Still, sleep eluded me, and the Red Moon ball haunted my thoughts.
